Did you buy one? Does this have a 2-pin plug with 3-pin adapter? Or can you swap between 2 and 3-pin?

yes, the AC plug is 2 pin, looks like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dd/Europlug2.jpg

With 3-pin (UK) adapter, similar to the one below,

Ah, ok. Thanks.

Bit bulky for travels then...

Not really, once attached, it is the same size as standard 3-pin UK plug. I think the following diagram will reflect the actual adaptor better. And there is a screw in the centre to secure the hinged 3-pin adaptor.

Just a word of warning re. these universal chargers! My Compaq charger died yesterday and went into shops to buy one today.........everyone in the 5 shops I went to told me that these are rubbish and will only last couple of months.

I eventually called up compaq (well HP now) and ordered direct for them for just under £30 guaranteed for a year too

sorry meant to also put that this price the OP has found is incredible - as cheapest universal charger I saw today was £70

Well mine arrived Saturday - pretty happy with it.

Not sure what your point is though - this unit comes with the same one year guarantee your £30 HP charger comes with.

Also in what shops did the staff advise you not to buy this?

tempted to get this for my sisters lappy :) thanks OP

One of the monkeys/members of staff in PC World, Dixons or Maplin probably :whistling:
I've had one of these for a while and it works great.

I got one of these the other day. I wouldn't leave it plugged in unattended and I doubt I could give it too much abuse but for keeping in the house as a spare it's ideal for me. They say you get what you pay for, and the feel of this certainly backs up that statement but the simple fact of the matter is that for a universal laptop charger this is by a long way the cheapest out there.

Thanks!

this is a very useful item; especially if you have access to a few different laptop and also travel a lot. in my last trip to italy, i managed to miss place my sony power supply and had to buy a charger then. i bought something simillar to this for 49 euro !!. it works fine with my other laptop as well.

I ordered on a Sunday night, got a dispatch email on the Tuesday and received it via Royal Mail on the Friday. Not bad.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: No, and as a long-time Mac user who has bought lots of Mac kit for for friends/relations/customers at different times over the years, including a lot of chargers, I recommend that the real deal is worth shelling out a bit more for.

Oh well but Cheers anyway!

Thanks a lot, ordered one, looks the same as the one i got from Maplins, cost me £65.00 back then
#30
Fantastic price. Sister inlaw bought one from Curry's £59.99...what a rip off and didn't work because of the low 3.75A ampage. This one should work better with 6A.

Thanks. H+R.
#31
Thanks OP perfect timing. My Dell charger is looking a bit ropey.
#32
Hot, I paid £35 for a Trust one from Maplin and that was cheaper than the ones at PC World. I needed one straight away otherwise I would have shopped around.
