£280 off this waterproof camcorder - may be useful for someone?
RRP £449.99

With a conventional digital camera or camcorder, many users are understandably reluctant to film or shoot in the rain or other wet environments, for the obvious fear of causing water damage to the camera. The VPC-WH1, however, has earned the highest possible IEC 60529 waterproof rating-IPX8-allowing users to capture high-definition (1280 x 720-pixel) 30 fps footage without worrying about the effects of water or snow. The VPC-WH1 is operable down to a water depth of 3 meters (10 feet).

With Sanyo's advanced waterproofing technology, this camera can be used without thinking twice in the rain; for marine sports such as surfing or snorkeling; or for winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding. The VPC-WH1 keeps up with active lifestyles, expanding the scope of shooting opportunities. It features a 30x optical zoom for superior video-capturing. The waterproof Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 Dual Camera is usable year-round and is perfect for activities on the go, regardless of whether users are in the city, by the sea, or in the mountains

Very tempting. Would like to know a bit more about it from people who own one before I take the plunge. Also, do people rate Sanyo?

I see what you did there. ;-)

might need to dive in and splash the cash for this

sanyo Xacti range of cameras are amazing, you can't get anything better in this price range, for the equivalent sony/ panasonic you would pay much more for the same results as this will give you. Only thing is this has no microphone input but most people don't need that as they used the internal built in mic...and its yellow...
other than that they are built very well and give good quality results.

it's a shame the front lens surround is silver, under the water it will reflect like a fish in front of a moray ell.

Morays have very poor eyesight and are almost blind.

It is fish like barracuda that are the danger from shiny/glinting things.

Personally I'd avoid play for expensive gadgets as their customer service is poor, and they are not UK based.

Comrades,
I do not have this specific model, but I have owned a Sanyo Xacti CG6 for about three years, and last year I bought the Xacti HD 1010.

I am extremely pleased by both cameras. If you have the correct expectations you will not be disappointed.

In particular I love the HD 1010. It takes full 1080p HD, but what surprised me is the excellent quality of the still images. This is the only camera you need to take on most vacations.

The model on sale here is a different form factor from the "pistol grip" Xactis I have, and of course it's waterproof. I would say for this price it's a great bargain, and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Voted hot.

Cheers,
SPuD

VERY tempted by this, but all the reviews mention poor image quality, mainly in low light.

Off to Alaska for a month in June and wanted something capable of withstanding the rigours of hiking, biking, kayaking, climbing etc along with Alaska's weather! Spent this morning watching YouTube clips taken with the camera and they look great to me, but would appreciate some feedback from anyone here who actually has one.

Great price though

You can watch the gadget show test here - it won by the way. Interesting that they quote the price as £160? http://fwd.five.tv/gadget-show/videos/jon-test/underwater-camcorders Have ordered as I've been meaning to get a camcorder for a while... some of the footage looks a little iffy to me but I could say that of any camera for this kind of price..

and have now cancelled after being unable to find any good quality videos lol... I think it was a review that recommended buying a Panasonic Lumix FT1 that finally swung it - if a stills camera can capture comparable video quality then this probably isn't for me.

How do you save the files? hdd or memory cards? Any memory built in?
#31
SD Memory Card(Up to 32GB SDHC Memory Card)Internal Memory Approx. 43MB. I ordered one!!! and a 16gb sdhc card
#32
Any comments in the camera?

I am thinking about this. Is a good price for a camera without the waterproof but being waterproof I think is brilliant.

How is the quality of the recording underwater? Can you see like if you had googles? or does it looks blurry ?
#33
I would have bought this if it weren't for the the image quality - the bloomin main aspect of the camera!
