sorted byTwo different cards displaying the same problem really does suggest something wrong elsewhere with your PC - your monitor or power supply, maybe?
Wouldn't work. You can only Crossfire two of the same card (or with the R* series, the card they're a rebadge of, such as a 280 and 7950).

Just go nvidia mate. I've personally had too many problems with AMD in the past. I've got the MSI gtx 770. Lovely card.
They can.
I built a gaming rig for a good friend of mine with a Gigabyte R9 280x inside, same issues! Had savage flickering during 2D apps as well as web browsing, couldn't use his internal blu-ray because the video would jump all over the place.
So i updated the gfx card bios, tried numerous AMD driver versions - none of it worked!
In the end the fix was simple as peas! The AMD catalyst software default refresh rate was set to 75Hz where as his monitor's maximum refresh rate at 1080p was 60Hz, which caused flickering in 2D apps when the cards core clock dropped to like 300Mhz.
It may be different for you, but go into the catalyst software, display settings and ensure the refresh rate settings match between your monitor and the AMD software. It was an instant fix for my friends rig and has never reoccured. Hope this helps
Max temp was 70 degrees, which is a definite improvement over my 6950... Looks like it's a winner so far
Looking forward to piddling about with benchmarks and stuff this week

So it's a small step up in price from the card below it, whereas there's a big step up for the card above it
Hot
Equally, it could be a design flaw with the card. I know the Asus 280X has an inherent design flaw, where four of the memory modules have no cooling whatsoever and are overvolted out of the box, meaning it's extremely prone to artifacting during prolonged use. Taking the card apart and applying small heatsinks to said modules completely fixes the problem.
Yes.
Depends on the resolution.

The R9 280 is in between the 270x and the 280x (closer to the 280).
So at 1680x1050 you can easily run it.
I consider 1920x1080 (also known as 1080p or Full HD) to be the standard, high-end resolution for monitors 24" or less. This card can run at that resolution without a hitch as well (roughly 55-60fps).
(Our eyes supposedly can't see more than 60fps.)
Yeah, can't grumble as like you say, the higher up the arc of performance you go, the more likely not to like the prices 12-24months later. I usually always buy around the £150 mark to avoid this, but my friend asked me to get him a 7950 and thought I'd get one too as a treat. Just hope it lasts a while longer.
Same situation with SSD, got a 128gb for around £115 when they came down, then the 256gb for around £130 and now ya can get the 512gb around same price........not biting this time ;0p
Far too sensible for HUKD!
Only if the game uses crossfire there are still many games which will not work. You are always best to get the best single gpu you can afford due to stuttering issues and heat and power consumption.
I have a 7970 so i know what you mean, they truly are amazing cards and have lasted very long!
Radeon pro is still a must on some games though.
The deal is still there - it's not expired.
I don't mind waiting.
be safe and never get confused on this stuff for few pound more, buy a minimum of 550w or more if you can, it will also help with future upgrades, you do not want to buy another one soon apart from the fact that with a good 430w you are at the limit with this card
A good 430w *could* handle it but I wouldn't recommend it to be honest, even good quality PSUs lose capacity over time and that's close to the limit from the start. I'd aim for a 550W one which could potentially last you a decade and multiple rebuilds.
General rules also apply: always get a branded one (if in doubt, google the brand, generally, if you've heard of a brand making other components, it'll be acceptable quality).
The XFX 550w core edition would be enough and did well in reviews. Even though their graphics cards are a bit cheap, their power supplies are rated really well.
Its a little steep, but seemed worth it to me if it guaranteed I'd have it to play around with when I actually have some rare free time...
Looking at the AMD website, Amazon(UK) is not part of the promotion.
There was definitely no promotion card in with mine except for the "Sapphire Club" code.
Sapphire too, bonus.
oOO is that for definite ???
that's handy to know
