specs look great, but £200 is a bit steep seeing as 4870/4850 can do pretty much most of the required graphics of heavy gamers

this is a direct x 11 graphics card.

Its quite a leap from the old series
2.1 billion transistors vs 959 million
idle consumption of 27W vs 60W

This card comfortably outperforms both those cards and a 4890. Look at some of the reviews on here

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-270690_15_0.html

Although they are all primarily reviews of an HD 5870, many include an HD 5850 in their comparison charts. In particular this one.

Bargain, possible the second best graphics card in the market after the 5870 imo

Dabs seems to be struggling with their stock supplies at the moment. Availability on this card is 1-2 weeks now.

I was eyeing up the ASUS 5850 at £206. It was due in 1-2 days yesterday, but has returned to availability in over 4 weeks. Comments on the product page hint at people getting them at the tail end of February.

Asus cards seems to be a better deal if you can get hold of it - it comes with a 3 year warranty and the ability to raise the core voltage for better overclocking. Best thing is that ASUS will honour the warranty even if you've upped the core voltage!

The new ATI's are selling like hotcakes. The 5770 is out of stock for alot of models on all of the major websites.

I managed to get hold of a Sapphire 5850 today for £199 through my company after spending weeks chasing up suppliers for stock of a 5850 card. I wanted to get an Asus really for the 3 year warranty but they don't expect stock of those until the end of Febuary now.

Not sure whats going on, but ATI/manufacturers are missing out on a lot of sales on these cards.
