An 8800GT doesn't even break sweat with CS:S at 1920 x 1200
#12
Great price.

There's a £5 voucher too if your order is £150 or over (now added to main post), so worth adding something low in price to take it over the £150 mark.
#13
Seems a good deal but ive only just got an sli motherbored and 2 8800GT
#14
I have the 880Gt, how does this compare as I have only had it a year. Anyone clued up?

4870 is much higher performance. You will get a good boost.

mmm I want an X2...

Good price, shame its pixmaina tho. I got a gtx 260 black edition from scan last month for £200 with far cry 2, mirrors edge and 3d mark vantage professional, think they've stopped that deal now tho but there seem to be plenty of offers coming on for a 260 atm

Yup, because they aren't all that good.

4870 is cheaper AND more powerful.
#23
Dumb question probably, but I have a 8500GT which I use purely as a HTPC for playing HD films and shows.Don't play games on it at all. Would there be much of a difference in HD quality with an upgrade or would i be wasting my money?
#24
It might increase framerates and possibly cut out any slight splutters you have. It would allow you to play all the latest games though as well, so kill two birds with one stone. Invest in a wireless gamepad and bingo!
#25
I wonder where my ati radeon 9800 pro fares against this... :)

Cheaper, maybe (I am not up to date with price - which is why I am checking here for potential bargains). The updated 260 (core 216) gives the 4870 more a fair fight though. It also has a much lower power consumption on idle, which is handy unless you do nothing but gaming on your PC.

Another very tempting graphics card deal! Seems like the cheapest of the 4870's and made by a trusted company.

I'm not 100% sure though, I currently have a 9600gt running on a 1920 x 1080 monitor and it can play most things at ease, however Crysis completely kills it :p

Would it be worth me buying this now to replace my 9600gt or should I wait a while longer?

Cheers for deal op :) voted hot.

I think you'll find that quidco is at 3% for graphics cards...well that's what tracked for me when I purchased the 1gb version of this model when it was £15 more expensive than the 512mb version....that was about 6 weeks ago.

Should be quite a considerable upgrade - the two cards compared here with different benchmarks & games (incl Crysis) at varying resolutions. Results will depend on the rest of your spec too.

Of course, waiting will get you something better for the same price, but how long are you willing to wait?
#32
My brother has an 4870 X2, along with a Intel Quad O/Cd to 3.5+ GHz, and 4GB O/C ram.

The last level of Crysis still kills it....
#33
man, i was thinking of getting the gtx 260 core 216 for £175 which i found somewhere so am i better of sticking with that or saving £25 and getting the ati radeon 4870 card? i really wanted that physx engine thingy.

also, if i wait another 3 more weeks, do u guys think theres a chance that both these graphics card are gonna fall in price (due to nvidia releasing new models etc)?

If I recall correctly, you'll be gaming on a relatively low(ish) resolution. If it still holds true, this card will be more than sufficient.

yeh its a 1440 x 900 res.
so this graphics card will last me like 3-4 years yeah?

None at all, you would be wasting your money. Most integrated graphics can handle 720p these days, so long aas you have a half decent CPU that graphics card will work fine with any HD playback.

Ordered, can confirm that it is 3% Quidco (£3.65) not the 6% stated.

lol even my X850XT runs it at 1440x900 with full aa and af :-D, if my monitor was 1920 x 1200 then I reckon it would handle it too.

Unfortunately I do not only play CSS so upgrade time is imminent :whistling:

Awesome card, I paid £170 for this nearly 2 months ago.

Plays high on Crysis and Grid, the only prob I've encountered is that my TV has a low response rate (8ms) so that's P*&^%ng me off now! but still great card much better than my 8800 GTS!
Make sure you have a decent CPU to keep up with it though, mine is a Q6600 Quad core :-D
