I thought so. HD 6970 for the price of HD 6950 (after flashing of course)
Price will possible go down but who wants it now, can get it now quite cheaply.

6950 seems to match the gtx 560 ti blow for blow but 2gb vram I'd be looking at this card especially since the price is fine so agreed very hot deal.
560 ti is also popular for its good overclocking but unlocking this to a 6970 would arguably be just as good.

And it is SAPPHIRE, company which was doing ATI cards for ages, in fact only ATI/AMD cards.
Also known as a quality brand.

TBH this is hotter then the MSI 560ti OC i posted yesterday.
There is a fairly good chance at unlock to 6970, but its not 100%

Building Sandy Bridge Rig?

I am.

Bought the £550 bundle (2600K cpu) from Scan on Monday, and added this card just now.

I'm hoping (especially once I have upped it to a 6970) that it will fly along nicely. All for, what seems a very reasonbly priced, £760 delivered.

Thanks OP for bringing this card to my attention. Was hoping for sub £200, but was happy enough to "settle" for it at £210

Yes I am, money is not an issue but, I have my head screwed on. I think the i5 2500k is good value for money, I would get the i7 2600 at about 215-225 but the 2500k at about 160-170 is amazing, looking at the Asus p67 deluxe which is the best bang for buck motherboard.

Ordered the OCZ modular 750w for £52 that was posted but awaiting stock from Play. Got memory a while back but prices have dropped since then. Looking at getting Samsung F3 1T as slave drive and a nice SSD as Boot drive (£1 per GB would be nice).

Voted hot as its a great price for today but expect it to be at a similar or lower price all over in the next few weeks

Very easy to flash. Have done so, not been added to above stats.

Am a little tempted to try crossfire and get another.

Wonder how low the 1GB will go as I've seen them only £10 cheaper.

I recommend you to forget about these 1GB versions cos I do not think that you can unlock them to full HD6970. (obviously they are only 1GB so......)

Wasn't thinking of getting a 1GB version, just noting tha £10 gets you 1GB more memory which I think is cheap.

wow - great price.

I will be holding off upgrading until RAGE comes out. That game will force me to upgrade :)
I may have to also upgrade from my ageing C2D E8400 4GHz - it has recently become the bottleneck of my system.

I can categorically state that I cannot afford one.
Would love to get one before the board is revised (no more unlocks).

It's sad that most of those are also available on consoles. I really want Shogun 2 when it comes out though!

Not sure why it's sad.
It's sad that so many people pay for expensive consoles when they could get a decent GPU for cheaper. :).

To be fair, I don't think that's what's sad. What depresses me about the whole thing is that the PC is such a good platform, but it's like the elitists ruined it by proclaiming that everything has to be overpriced 'gaming' hardware and that everything else is just rubbish. It's balls, and the reality's always been that any PC that has a decent CPU is just a £70 graphics card away from becoming a better games machine than any of the consoles, but no-one ever marketed graphics cards that way, and now the platform appears to be pretty much dying because of it.

Although I am super-excited to hear about at least four of the things on Mr. Beeching's list, so w00ts all the same.
#28
Well I remember when the PC had all its own games and amazing exclusives, lots of games that just couldn't be done on consoles. That's why I think it's sad.

Yeah, now we have games like Call of Duty and Battlefield that used to be amazing on PC, but now are terrible after having to be majorly dumbed down for console gamers :(

This deal has been superseded by this one by some margin:

As far as I was aware the 6970 had an 8 pin and a 6 pin PCI -E connector so could draw more current, also The memory on the 6950 is only rated to 5000 Mhz running at that, whereas the memory on the 6970 is rated to 6000 Mhz running at 5500 ? So you are already overstretching to get to this mark, the table listed above, although working properly at the moment has no way of telling you for how long. Good luck if you do it though, I wouldnt want to risk it at this moment and time until we had people running them for a couple of months.
#32
unlocking the shaders and overclocking to 6970 speeds seems just as good as unlocking to a full 6970, but doesn't push the card out of its safety zone. so its a good alternative

I've got the 6950. Haven't seen it struggle yet to really need to do this yet, but obviously will soon just for the sake of it.

Pretty pants argument considering you can't run stuff off a GPU alone. And yes, I have both an Xbox 360 and a gaming rig (both of which get lots of useage). Anyway, great deal, especially if you flash it. I'll stick with my 5770's in CF for the meanwhile though.

Not really, considering everyone has a computer of some sort.

What is a pretty pants argument is saying consoles are cheaper than PCs.
They're not if you've half a brain. And when you consider how much you're going to save actually buying games - console games are generally 25-50% more expensive than PC games - you're quids in.

Erm - no they don't, any whilst the GPU is the most important part for gaming, it's not the only part that has to be of a certain level to result in a good gaming experience.
