Isla bikes aren't crazy once you realise that if you look after it doesn't depreciate by much compared to most other kids bikes.
Still not cheap tho.

Isla bikes second hand are a bit cheaper and usually worth it.

All that spec and I still can't figure out what's the lowest and highest seat positions possible on that bike.

Islabikes have an easy to follow table and each bike has a min and max seat hight possible. Last week I bought a Beinn 20s based on those measurements for my 5.5 year old daughter - her inseam was 46cm, and bike's lowest seat position 47 cm. She was pedaling away unassisted within 10 mins of getting the bike. However - Islabikes are painfully expensive. I would rather not splash out again for another Islabike for the 3.5 year old, which is what got me interested in this post in the first place, but can't figure out bike's dimensions. Meh.

I have to agree, their site saying 3-6yrs isn't overly helpful. I suppose for correct geometry and sizing the back length should really be taken into consideration hence the suggestion on the saracen website of visiting your local bikeshop (which is fine if you live near a saracen dealer - but otherwise pretty useless).

I would love to buy an islabike but I really can't justify £260 on a bike for a 3yr old even if selling it on makes some of that cash back. I would be constantly worried about scuffs and scrapes which are always going to happen.

I recently bought an Orbea MX 20 which weighs similar to the Beinn 20 and has very high quality components but is at least £150 cheaper. Hopefully the start of some competition and the realisation that kids bikes should be lightweight.

If you find something better than the Saracen let me know! I still haven't hit buy yet :)

Hi - I'm looking for a bike for my 3 year old boy, did you find anything good?!

Hi Brooky. Against all odds I ended up getting a bike from Halfords! They do the Carerra Star which has really nice components like the shorty brake levers and incredibly weighs only 6.8kg. It compares really well to the frog and islabikes and she rides really nicely on it.

They do have a Carerra Cosmos boys bike at £140 on offer at the moment. 6.2kg. Never thought I would receommend a halfords product but this line is a bit of a hidden gem. Almost all of their (and other big companies) other bikes are around the 13kg mark.

Hope this helps.
