Saturday Day Travelcard

This is ONLY for Saturdays and ONLY for a day trip. You must book by 6PM night before and specify the outward (Manchester to London) train. You can book any time train for this.

While you're in London you can go anywhere anytime on tubes, buses, trains and trams in zones 1-6. This is normally £12 on its own.

Coming back you can get ANY train, you can reserve a seat if you wish but still do not have to get on that time trains.

All trains on this deal are the normal fast direct Virgin trains. Every 20 minutes for most of the day, every half hour in evening.

There are NO railcard discounts for this fare.

This offer's been running for years and is permanent, just not advertised much.

Op, if this isn't a daft question- is it Manchester only? Was wanting to travel Wigan to London. Not that well up on train stuff, but I do know it's a different line? But still operated by Virgin

Still £30 too much for public transport, but obviously better price than usual, so heat.

try wigan to london VIA manchester on a search engine which lets you put a VIA in. i use http://www.eastcoast.com. All tickets for all train companies are available on any train companie's website which a lot of people don't realise. Also just try Manchester to London and book singles Wigan to Manchester. There are 3 fast trains an hour Manchester to London and a lot of them are about 3/4 empty in the middle of the day. Wigan only has one fast train an hour, and one slow one which is Virgin but it takes an hour longer. In other words, supply and demand! The trains through WIgan all come from Scotland so there is already all the people on them from all the stations between there and Wigan. Manchester ones start in Manchester and only stop 3 times on way so u often virtually have a carriage to yourself.

Wow, now I never knew that, about trains starting in manc. I know I've got same train to Edinburgh from Wigan. They're pretty much the same in travel time I think - 2hrs 2, 2hrs 8 ? Prob for me is that it so easy to park at Wigan, leave car all day. Cheap too. Not so in manc, I don't think. Will have a look, see if I can line up Wigan, manc, London. Thank you so much !!

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/manchester-london-13-train-split-change-trains-works-other-routes-aswell-2490012 - this sometimes works the day before and even if it isn't £13 the day before, it's still a lot cheaper than Virgin's overpriced day before tickets.

Or buy a railcard and get very cheap seats booked well in advance, two adults and two children... We went to London return for £21.20 from York only two weeks ago on a friends and family railcard.. That was return and booked 11 weeks in advance.

Why are these deals always for visiting London??

I live in London and would love to get out of the **** hole on an offer like this sometimes !! But it's never available going in the opposite direction..

Although Manchester is a bit far to go for a day!?! You would spend most of it travelling.. A weekend maybe.

I've an account with First Trans Pennine and I book most of my train tickets, including Virgin ones, through them - as they offer free 1st class delivery. Unlike Virgin who charge £1. Don't forget cashback!

You can book any day or time up until the Friday before at 6PM. Just search Manchester to London. It's called a Saturday Day Travelcard. Find the price that's £41.20 return. You will then be able to select an outward and return train. You must get on exact train for outward. For the return you'll receive a reservation but you can ignore it and get any train coming back.
