It's that horrible time of year again when winter draws in and your old cover runs out... Got the SSE deal last year but they now want £21.26 a month. This deal seemed the best price wise.

Advertised cost is £17.90 per month but you get the first 4 months free....

£17.90 x 8 = £143.20 or averaged out £11.93 a month...

TCB is £34.50 taking total annual charge to £108.70 or averaged out £9.05.

No payment is taken for first 4 months so that's an added Brucy Bonus.

This is the premium cover from Scot power so INCLUDES a boiler service, unlimited callouts etc etc.

British gas also have a good offer if you need want a hive hub and 2 smart lightbulbs but this works out at £17 a month if you take the no excess option...

As ever DO not take these out if you have an existing issue - there are exclusion periods (21 days in this case). Also DON'T forget to cancel at the end of 12 months and get the next best offer ;)

Be careful with these types of cover and make sure they are insurance backed. Hopefully they are.
I did 247 Home Rescue last year and was totally ripped off! They state they are ONLY a service provider, yet provide almost nothing!
They are a total disgrace of a company!

I wouldn't buy anything from this shower of ****. Worse company and customer service ever. I am stuck in a dual fuel deal until February with these and can't wait to jump ship.

Homeserve is surely a better option with cover 8 at £9.50 a month with TCB of £57 cashback?

Had mixed experience with homeserve in the past some good some bad - £50 excess will swallow up your cash back if you do call them out. WOOOAH just read the T&C's it's £50 excess for every call out - would be VERY careful here.

Agree with backinstock, I had similar experience with that 247 home rescue. Awful company, absolute conmen. Reported them to trading standards, not sure if these are similar but they take your money and then do anything to weasel out of fixing any issues due to clauses in their T&Cs.

Fair play but this isn't 247 it's Scot power. They have always been ok with me - attached the t's and c's at the bottom for peeps to check through

I hate to say it but I think this may be one area where British Gas have the edge!

I've been self-insured for many years and paid for a one-off call out when I've needed them. And that hasn't been often, twice in 10 years.

First time was when an old Baxi was on its last legs and they couldn't get a new heat-exchanger. So offered a decent deal on a new installation - with no charge for the call-out.

Second time last weekend when a call one day got the engineer round the next day and a new valve was fitted well within the minimum 30 mins rate. Cost £79 inc. parts. The valve itself would cost up to that.

And their engineers do seem to know what they are doing.

Signed up to this a couple of years ago. Had to have a boiler check as part of the terms of the cover. Scottish power kept cancelling the appointments for the visit. After the fourth time of me having to take time off work and them cancelling on the day, I told them to shove it. Couldn't get a refund for the 3 months I paid them either!

Over 5 years this comes to the price of a new boiler. Why not just pay for a new one when you need it??

Yes, because when your boiler packs in on a freezing cold night in the middle of winter, you could just nip out straight away and pop a new one in..................

In all seriousness, I wouldn't touch Scottish Power with a bargepole. Awful customer service. Been with British Gas for years on their Homecare package and can't fault them. Worth paying that little more for and the annual service should prolong the life of your boiler. Excellent service and really good engineers.

Where can you get a new combi installed for that money?

I wrote new boiler, not boiler plus installation.
