Given that normal 1TB external drives are going for about £69, it looks like the Mac-tax is about £30 or just over a 40% markup - good value? I think not. Cold

I think you have to look at the difference in speed between the two drives... which is quite important.

The extra cost isn’t the fact it’s aimed at Mac’s it’s because it has a triple interface Firewire 400/800 and for general compatibility USB2.

If you’ve ever used external drives other than for occasion backup and copying files for friends, you’d realise Firewire is a big improvement on USB2 for tasks such as video editing where you’re moving large or lots of files around regularly.

If you voting cold based on the fact that you can get a USB version a lot cheaper does that mean you vote cold on for example any Core2Duo or i7 processor because Celeron processors cost a fraction of the price.

If you can find a 1TB drive with Firewire 800 for less then go ahead...
