picked up two of these at Sainsburys two weeks ago for £29.99 each, so maybe worth a check at your local to see if there is any stocks left. Great drive running well off my WODE.

very fir price and the case is a great bonus

Dont bother sold out

Good deal (with free case). I was just in PC World at lunchtime and they have the Western Digital Elements 320Gb portable drive for £44.99 (reduced by £25).
#7
None in stock locally and if I did trek to the store that has 1 they are out of stock of the free case.
Shame as it seems a good deal.
Has memory started going back up in price recently though ?

Always seems to be the case with Argos. None in my local stores either.

Doubt it's worth £9.99, it might cost £9.99 from Argos though

As an alternative, you can get an Iomega drive for £36 plus Quidco cashback from comet.

This is a nice deal, I needed abit more space for backup though.

Here are links to the rest of the range from Amazon...

This is the one I ended up getting. Works well, very quiet with no fan and doesn't get too hot either which in my view is always a good sign of reliability.

I noticed recently that HDDs seem to be more expensive than they were about 6 months ago. Perhaps they had loweered the prices leading into the Xmas period to try to get the sales?

Anyway, I own this drive in the 320gb version, and its excellent. I have always bought Seagate drives and have never had a single issue with them. This one is very sleek but sill very well built. You can also get a dock for it for around £15, and it can plug straight in to Seagate's own brand HighDef media player, seen here:

I wouldn't trust my data on an Iomega no matter how cheap, had nothing but problems with my previous 2 (can't believe I gave them a 2nd chance).
#16
If you think 250gb is too small, you can buy 320gb or 500gb version for 49.99 or 69.99 too.

Both will come with a free belkin case as well..
#17
Not bad but not as good as the IOMEGA 320 gig 2.5" from Tesco for £35 I picked up. Though that deal is history now.
#18
Thanks OP. Reserved one at my local store.
#19
Looks a good deal, shame I've recently bought a Iomega drive so aint gonna bother with this one. 2 left in stock in Bearwood, Birmingham.

Voted hot anyway.

Yep good deal. I posted this on the Sainsburys HDD for £29.99 thread a few days ago.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/590806/maxtor-basics-250gb-portable-usb2-0

If it's the same drive the USB cable is funky as it has two connectors; Power and Data on one side and Power on the other so weaker USB ports / older PC's can power this drive.

It will work with just the power and data cable plugged in.

Amazon sells 500GB External Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive for £48.90. not sure if I should go for this one, instead of the Argos. Any suggestions?

Just realised that this one is a desktop, not a portable one. Hmm, I got to think if portable is of any great use if I am going to use it only for backing up at home.
#23
Reserved one and collected it at my local store in Guiseley, they had another one in stock.
#24
Just checked stock in the Leeds / Bradford area and there's plenty about if anyone wants one.

If you want a 500gb drive for around £40 and you don't mind it being a bit chunkier try this one. I got my through the post today and I'd still class it as portable - it's light & pretty small.

puts a little more demand on your desktop psu, but powered means extra power cabling and 1 more used plug socket
#28
Just reserved one (but no case left ) ?.......if anyone wants it, , its at the loughborough shop on the high st..and the res no is.....009266 ...ok.......its the last one in leic area.......ill wait for a better deal.

Purchased 2 of these from ERITH store. Really good little drives, very quiet and USB powered - ideal for Nintendo Wii! :D (convert to WBFS and you'll get about 100 games on it!)
#30
Appears to be 2.5" (based on sleeve given with it) and that's a good price for a 250gb drive for a laptop, as they're about 36 and an enclosure is 8. So good to use to upgrade a laptop hard drive or PS3.

Yeah, the picture shows the power hole in the hdd. Going through the reviews, it is clear that it needs to be plugged into the mains. hmmm,.. deep thinking needed :-D

Yep, no problems.

Picked mine up last night. Very nice looking little HDD, auto detected in Win7 and Vista as expected. And pretty much silent of course.
