REVIEWS:

1) BRILLIANT HARD DRIVE

Ordered this HDD on the 4th May, arrived on the 11th May.

Installation was simple and easy. Does NOT come with jumpers, cables or screws.

You do NOT need any jumpers to force this into SATA-150 mode. The HDD auto detects and changes down into SATA-150 mode.

The drive itself it quiet and fast. Operating temperature is typically around 55C.

2) SEAGATE OVER WESTERN DIGITAL ANYTIME

I have had these disks in my machines and raid servers for years rather than months and havent had one fail yet.

Excellent disks and price.
I am about to order another 4 for my server.

Bought one of these last week..... works excellent! however:

"You do NOT need any jumpers to force this into SATA-150 mode. The HDD auto detects and changes down into SATA-150 mode."

You do need to add a jumper, or at least i did to put it down to sata-150 mode as it wasnt being recognised by my motherboard. Easy to do though..... there are a load of guides as to the correct jumper setting.

I've been waiting to buy a 500GB drive; what do you think about the Samsung?

Slightly cheaper, too...
#3
The Samsung is great, quieter and slightly faster than the Seagate.

Seagate for the 5 year warranty though.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, and I didn't need to do anything to make it work at SATA-150. Seems a good quite drive, and doesn't run too hot according to Speedfan.

I bought the Samsung HDD above, after the cancellation of the Dell Drives.

My Mobo is a SATA-150 and the Samsung drive (SATA-300) went straight in without needing to set any jumpers specifically.

Its very fast, very quiet, and you still get 3 years warranty from Samsung.

I love my Samsung - its fast and I cant hear it at all. Makes a huge difference from my old 80GB WD drive.
#7
I think the samy is a winner!
#8
Given its £59 delivered from ebuyer, and faster I cant see why youd get the Seagate over the Sammy...

NEVER buy Seagate drives from Ebuyer - they have in the past been caught selling so called Seagate "Component" drives which are only intended to be supplied to systems builders and carry no Seagate warranty - only a warranty to be offered by the system builder which is usually 1 year only.

Easy to check this - by typing your Seagate serial number into the Seagate warranty checker web page - it either tells you that it has a full Seagate warranty with an end date usually 5 years away - OR IT TELLS YOU TO GO AWAY AND CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER BECAUSE IT'S A SYSTEM COMPONENT.

You have been warned!

I checked the Seagate I got from Ebuyer when I bought it, and it was a full 5 year warranty version.
