hehe I was tempted to post this too, 17.5p/gb ain't bad :)
#2
:p

yup not bad at all ... bought one now as its exactly what i needed and under £100 ! Great price in my eyes.

Paid £91.17 with Quidco !
#3
Nice deal, however not sure if im fond having all my data on one massive HDD incase it ever failed :)

Nice find either way though!
#4
surely the .10 version (which is quite a bit quicker if slightly noisier) is only a few quid more ?
#5
its more than just a few quid more :)

7200.10 is £130.22 delivered

Recording method is different in 7200.10 but does it weigh up with the price ?
I still think the 7200.9 is better in terms of value for money.
#6
To the people voting this cold ... it would help if you would actually post alternatives in the same class (i.e 7200.9 and 7200.10 are not in the same class).

thanks :)
#7
I think the people voting cold are just ignorant to the hdd market.

This is 17.5p/gb which for 500gb range of drives is very good.
Only 2 previous offers have beaten this and they were a 320gb and 400gb, both on smaller drivers, smaller drives = older designs and been on the market alot longer hence will OF COURSE be better value.

This is the cheapest 500gb on the UK market at the moment.
If it's too expensive smaller and cheaper exists, if it's too small Seagate 750gb is around for £180 :)
#8
thank you, just what i needed, my music collection was engulfing my 250gb one, just in time! All i need now is a nice fast 40-60 gig drive for my o/s and programmes!
#9
A good deal.

This gets the Shak seal of approval.

BUT! if the drive fails, you lose all your data, best to get 2x250gb if you can find them at a good price...so as to reduce data loss if the drive dies.

They have cut the price to £87.99.
Just clicked the link and thats the current price.

And Hard Drives have been at this area for a bit now.
Got my 500Gb Western Digital in January for just under £90
#15
£93.99 with delivery included :)
#16
Ahhhhh forgot that some people are charging delivery still lol.

Comes out at the exact same price as the WD 500Gb from Ebuyer then.
WD one needs Sata power ports though which can be a pain for some people.

Nice.
Trying to remember why i don't like Dabs but my memory's gone lol.

Not sure what the Drives now are like for noise.
Have an old Seagate and its noisy, but so's the old WD. And never had a Samsung.
The new WD's are silent, aint heard it since i got it so i'd guess this ones gonna be as good.
Theres most likely not much difference between them.

This can only reduce data loss if you use RAID1, in which case you also lose half the capacity. (RAID0 only has performance benefits, no redundancy)

great price in this case. Better to get the 7200.10 for a few more quid as you say. So thats £100.95 all together for a 7200.10 500gb ... bargain ?

bit more expensive but much more reliable as far as I know.

edit: Quite a bit more expensive actually due to heavy £8.00 delivery.
#31
There's a guy on Ebay selling the 7200.10's for £94.49 + £8 P&P = £102.49 inc.
#32
The cheapest 500gb drive I've seen is this WD Caviar from Komplett for £85.01 + £6 delivery. Sadly no Quidco or anything, though. They did have the Samsung SpinPoint at the same price last weekend, so I bought two (they only seem to charge a flat delivery rate regardless of quantity) to stick in a RAID 1 NAS enclosure.
#33
Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 500GB S300 16MB is about £123 with delivery from Dabs. It's very highly rated and amongst one of the quickest.

That samsung one looks appealing ... not a bad price at ~87 + del too. Can I ask, is the samsung quiet ?
#36
Decent price for dabs and this particular drive, I'd go with a Western Digital though for speed and price.

Samsung SpinPoints are quiet.

Used 2x160GB Samsung SpinPoints when building my silent Win MCE PC about three years ago, have never heard them.
#38
just to add, I bought the Samsung from Scan for about £90 (using my free delivery) (which I get on anything from Scan, over or under £20) :-)

But I was a little disappointed that in reality the maximum size partition I could make was 465gb

(this applies to drives in general, not just the Samsung)

It's now coming up as;
delivery: £6.00 inc vat
total: £85.99 inc vat
