I bought the 1TB version of this for £54.99 from ebuyer a few weeks ago. It's a good bit of kit. There's no separate on / off switch if you're interested.

Anyone know of any good deals on portable drives (i.e. no external power 2.5 inch)?

After having 2 Seagate external drives failing in the last month I won't be risk buying Seagate drives again.

Apparently Tesco are doing the 1TB Western Digital Elements external drive for £60.00p.

I managed to pick up something similar from Comet for £66.49p after using a discount code promotion on Western Digital drives at Comet.

I know but the WD drives (for some reason) appear a bit more stable.

I searched on loads of forums about the seagate external drive problems and it appears to be quite a widespread problem. The drives just start to beep and click (Like the old Iomega Jazz drive click of death).

At least the long term warranty means I can send them back to get (reconditioned) replacement drives. Fortunately I did not have anything important on the drives, just music and movies which I had fortunately backed up on other drives.
It's just the inconvenience.
The lesson learned is to have multiple backups on different formats.
