The Seagate Momentus XT drive offers hybrid storage with Adaptive Memory technology, enabling the drive to deliver higher capacity and SSD-like performance. The Momentus XT drive is designed for all standard laptop PCs and is OS-, driver- and software-independent, making this drive easy to integrate and easy to use. Adaptive Memory technology enables the drive to tailor its performance to the user. Whether you are gaming, editing digital media or crunching numbers, the performance is optimized and ready for your next move. Adaptive Memory technology is a Seagate data management technique that constantly monitors and quickly recalls data usage and preferences. It places files and data that the user will likely access again and again into the solid state portion of the drive. When the user requires the data or application file, it already sits in an instantly accessible location, thereby customizing system performance for the user. Constant monitoring dynamically improves overall response time based on personal usage. You can perform at your best no matter how you use your laptop PC.

This is the best price I have found so far for this Hybrid drive. I presume these drives also work with ps3, etc, but whether the SSD function will be beneficial for this I can't say.

From what I can gather, this drive gives quite a noticable improvement from a 7200mph drive.

:p

The SSD functionality would be entirely wasted in a PS3.

Lol yep, that doesn't surprise me. Definately recommend using it for a laptop drive

I think you're better off ordering from Scan for 28p more (£82.78). Free delivery for AVForums members and excellent service.

Looks to be just what I need - if only I hadn't spent the cash getting the car serviced :(

Does anyone own one of these drives? If so, did they find it gave a noticable performance boost?

I own this drive and it did give a performance boost. I would say it varies between "not much" and "feels much quicker" depending on what i'm doing. Apps mostly open quicker I think the Mac now however is slower to go to sleep when the lid is closed as the drive does some "house keeping" perhaps? before took a couple of second now can take up to 30 - on the whole i'm very pleased with it.

I have one in my Macbook Pro.

I think its a great drive, what you need to remember is the flash part of the drive only caches repeatedly common used applications.

I would recommend it startup and apps I use the most fly open compared to the standard 7200 drive that I had in it before.

I would echo what someone else said and get it elsewhere for a fraction more cost, I am not a fan of pixmania.

I have one in my Lenovo u350 and its superb. Huge difference, and not a bad price.

I would have one in my desktop if they would bring them out in 3.5"...

Id go with Scan as above too

doesnt really make a difference, you can still use it, its only the screw fittings that would change.

Are the connections the same?

standard sata connections, only screwing it down to worry about - though you should be able to put it anywhere or get 2.5 - 3.5 adaptor kit
