Considering what kids have to play with nowadays I just dont know why Sega keeps trying with the old arcade games. I have these all on my PC and to be honest it was a waste of money buying them for a few pound nevermind paying £30 for a console that wont get used after the novelty period has worn off.

I love these old games like many others but they are dated now...R.I.P.

p.s. I still want Wonderboy though, please someone bring it back.

Did you miss this then?!

Sega keep releasing these gimmick Megadrive consoles but never put Sonic 1, 2 or 3 on there... I assume it's due to some licensing issue but still... why bother with these things if they don't have the best selling and most popular Megadrive games on?

Best getting the Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection for Xbox 360 - less than a tenner and actually has the Sonic games on!

I actually thought the 3D versions on the Dreamcast were fantastic. I'd go as far to say the best Sonic games ever made on one of the best consoles ever made >

This is a terrible product. The mini Mega Drive on play was much better and the same price, it had 2 Mega Drive shaped 6 button pads, built in games AND could take any region carts.

I'm not voting cold, 50% off RRP is good, product isn't.

now if theyd fetch out ground zero texas what i used to have on sega cd it would be worth having

I also feel sorry for them as their parents would obviously be retarded if they couldn't tell the difference between this and a Wii.

It isn't Sega releasing this, they just license the games/rights out.

This was probably designed and made by some unknown company, who paid Sega for the privilege.

Got one in Morrisons for £30 two weeks ago. Good deal IMHO. Modern consoles (XBox, PS3, Wii etc) whilst visually astounding, lack a certain charm IMHO. They also eat up way too much time and money. ;) Give me retro 2D pixels anyday of the week. Anyway, I guess this is a 'marmite' item that people either embrace or bash.

I wouldn't buy this for a childs Xmas though, as to me it is more a gadget (novelty item) than a serious console. It's something for big kids to tinker with. A child would almost certainly be disappointed.

Next year I'll be looking out for the bad boy below. This console (Retron 3) is wireless and combines a NES, SNES and Sega Mega Drive console into a single unit. Probably coming to a Morrisons near you..................... next year!!

Why do they go to all the hessle of putting out an old retro unit...but with all the great games they COULD have included, they choose a loud of sh*te games instead?????
#21
The pads on this thing look horrendous... I can't understand why they didn't use the original pad design, having already licensed the Mega Drive brand name.

oooh!! i want one of them!!!!

I think its a great little product to introduce a younger child into the world of gaming.

My daughter is 10 now and she had some cheapie games consol to use as i didnt think it was right to go straight onto the bad boy stuff.
Why do parents shove their kids in front of the latest high tech gaming stuff before they can even walk? Oh yeah, they are all cheating the benefits system and smoking canabis all day so they cant be arsed being good parents.

Rant over. ;)

Cant tell if that was a joke or not..you're aware Sega have released a new 2d Sonic, like 3 weeks ago? Sonic 4 Episode 1?

Don't you think that is an over generalisation? Whilst I appreciate retro gaming being a gamer for so many years and having quite the retro collection myself why should younger kids have a retro console for their fun instead of a new console because you deem that if they do " their parents are dole-ites and smoke pot?!"

Considering that all the latest now have their own motion controllers there are plenty of casual games amongst the latest gen consoles that would appeal to kids, as well as plenty of retro ones available in their relevant online shops.

Little Big Planet, Eye Pet, Kinectimals, Viva Pinata, Lego games, Super Mario etc etc are all titles that appeal to kids.

Guess you have an over stereotyped viewpoint that all latest consoles titles available are 18+ rated FPS.

If you look you will see that i added the 'wink' smilie so it was tongue in cheek.

I wasnt saying that kids should have the retro style games over the new updated versions but cheap was the key word. Wireless is very expensive as compared to the item we are discussing.

I often forget how good the dreamcast was, definitely an under-rated console, the gfx are as good as the wii and the games are better (yeah i know the reason the wii is popular is because of its controller and the ps3, 360 and pc have far superior gfx). Sonic and jetset radio were awesome on the dreamcast

The Sega Megadrive had some brilliant games. Unfortunately most of them are not included on this console. Our MD has been mothballed, as we've had all of the games running on a PC for donkeys years now. Much better too, as you can save games (snapshot) when you like.
The likes of B.O.B., Streets of Rage 2, Ranger-X and Aladdin still get the occasional airing. Just brilliant gameplay!
#30
I just bought myself a PC Engine on ebay for £30.
I'm just not into current generation FPS's and racing games - give me platform games like Wonderboy and shoot 'em up's such as R-Type any day!
Games developers seem to have forgotten that gameplay and originality are more important than graphics.
My xbox 360 is pretty much an ornament these days. Fifa 10 is the only game I still play.
#31
These are okay but they just don't look as good now on big TV's. I had the megadrive collection on PS3 and was dissapointed. These are best played on smaller screens ideally psps etc.
#32
Wouldn't one of the Blaze consoles be better as they've got built in games and you can play original cartridges on it. The pads are more like the original ones too.

The Dreamcast was a fantastic console, slightly ahead of its time too. Graphics not quite on par with the Gamecube (or for that matter the Wii), but held its own graphically against the PS2 for sure.

I still have one in my retro collection.

Have to agree , the dreamcast was ruined due to the ease of piracy . SAAAYYY GAAARR

Dreamcast was well ahead of its time, what with online multiplayer and some amazing games. Nevermind PS2 - many of the games would embarass current PS3/360 titles.
#36
waste of time and money - not having an adaptor and being wireless pads its going to cost a lot for batteries, and if you get rechargeable ones you will have to stop while they charge all day.

20 games are good, the other 30 are swful games that you will never play. dont buy this, get the other versions which are megadrive consoles, cart space and proper pads.

that retron 3 looks cool, i like that you can go wireless but also use original pads which i have as well as the consoles. but for a space saving deal that would be good. i just hope its not too expensive when its out, otherwise i may as well stick to the originals.

Also.... Dreamcast still working with House of the Dead under my telly.... XB360 Died 2 weeks ago...

Dreamcast forever :)

I love Old 16-bit Games, bought this from Morrisons for £14.98...Oh Dear!! Build quality Very Poor; console weighs only 270gm approx (Yes, a Bag of Sweets weighs almost as much) - I thought the box was Empty when I picked it up? Controllers, again very light in construction. Connected it to a TV ...things got worse, Colour registration/alignment completely Off. As a comparison I connected the 'Blaze' handheld version: Picture Perfect! Sorry to rain on the retro-parade, but this 'Reactor' is to be avoided even if You have a Penchant for early 90s tech. Not a Bargain.
