Only learned as an adult if you held down the echolocation button instead of pressing it you got a map. We memorised/drew our own maps for the entire game as kids

I couldn't work it out either... but it was only recently that I found out what ECCO stands for... it's horrifying.

(look it up on Daniel Ibbertson's (aka DJ Slopes) YouTube channel, but I warn you now, it is very NSFW)

Plus plenty of Steam workshop mods. Lots of PAL -> Jap conversions of games (i.e. streets of Rage -> Bare Knuckles etc...) for those sega purists

Hahahahaha, I agree with the bulk of people here, who also had no concept of any of what that Game was actually about?, hehehe (other than it was meant to have been an Environmentally friendly Dolphin in that Game, or something like that?, and that's about it really ..... lol). :-)

Ecco the Dolphin was actually a sci-fi adventure about defending the Earth from a race of technologically-advanced environment-devouring aliens, with the help of a mysterious planetary guardian creature in the shape of a DNA helix that lived under the ocean.

(I wish I was joking.)

Oh, and in the second one you can travel in time and swim through the sky.

Lol this is true
I remember getting to that last level and being scared for a life when I saw that final boss
You wouldn't expect that from that kind of game lol

Oh! I always thought the game play was all about doing fast jumps out the water with multiple somersaults! :D
