I'm wearing this exact watch today, actually. Good price. Goldsmiths also sell for the same price, and you can use Tesco vouchers at 3x the rate to reduce this price, if that helps. Voted hot.

This watch is automatic with a good power reserve on it. It doesn't hack and there's no manual wind, but the automatic winding is very efficient as a couple of hours wear will power it through the night.

how good are these? The description mentions top quality but is it really? I know Seiko top end is phenomenal, but what about the lower end?

Reasonable quality, but a basic auto movement. The 7s26 movement is very reliable though, can last for 20 years + without servicing.
I'm not keen on these older Seiko autos, they're way too small for me at 38mm..... i prefer the newer 4r36 movement as well as it also hacks & hand winds and ime its more accurate as well.

Great thats exactly the info I was after. Incidentally, do you know how much these movements go for? Do seiko OEM them into other watches for example?

The 7s26 has gone in loads of other Seiko watches, the 007 Divers and the 1st generation Monster are two of the most well known. Many others as well.
The newer entry level Seiko autos tend to use the 4r36 now, i have it in my 2nd generation Monster. Then there's even better movements in their higher quality autos.

Find silver dials bit hard to read, have a beautiful Seiko chrono from about 5 years ago, just couldnt read the time with a quick glance in normal use :-( Needed more contrast, so eventually went for the blue version, SND 379

Goldsmiths have black or blue faced version of this for £62. This dial is quite hard to read - my eyesight is a bit crappy without glasses and I struggle a bit with this when the light is bad.

Another option if you are prepared to take the risk importing from Singapore, Creationwatches have the J.Springs Japan made versions of these on clearance at around £41 with code CLEAR. At least a dozen different versions available.
