Channel 4 says they have gone into administration.. Not sure what will happen now or if they will open their shops. Their web site is still up..
#2
Maybe even cheaper now that the administrators have been called in!

Bye bye Woolies - you won't be missed ;-)

Think about what you say in future. Thousands of people have jobs in Woolworths and other companies that are going into administration, and it's not exactly the best time of year to be worrying about losing your job.

Agreed. Most people forget about the individuals affected by these changes. Woolworths seems like a ins-tuition in this country, will be sad to see it go if it does.

MFI are also in big trouble. I'm sure these two won't be the last, sadly.
#5
Although Verve (forth) seems like a good bargain, might go get that before they close.

Heat added! :p
#6
i know they have gone into admin but i very much doubt they will close the shops down before the weekend
. I am not sure how it works but common sense says the adminstrator will keep them open to raise as much finance from the sale of existing stock as possible

i agree it is sad and doesnt bode well for other high st shops. Woolworths have been in "no mans land" for a while and hit v hard by the supermarkets
#8
t'is a shame :-(!
Hope someone saves them!! :)
#9
Yeah, they'd be mad to close the shops full of stock right before christmas. I expect they'll at least keep them open to shift as much stock as they can. And then probably close just after christmas.

Very sad. But Woolworths have been circling the drain for 4 or 5 years now. It was inevitable.

Surprising it came at this time of year though.

i work there shops will open as normal tomorrow

This site has a horrible materialistic and mercenary streak. Don't like that side of it at all. Like a bargain but not at the expense of the individual and their family.
#20
Not one of my favourite shops, but would be sad to see them go. I've got a meeting myself tomorrow evening to find out if I still have a job. So I have some idea of how the people who work there must feel:x

Yes they will-i for one will miss them-lots of people have no other stores near them that sell as much as cheaply as Woollies do. Ok-so maybe not as posh as John Lewis-but then agan you aren't paying their prices either.

I really feel for the staff-there are loads in the one near me who have been there as long as i can tremember-and they have always been helpful and friendly-so you are wrong-I WILL MISS WOOLWORTHS !

I agree: too many anonymous people got too much to say when it would just be kinder to shut up. It's a deal or it's not, whether or not you wish to purchase.
#25
Good deal, will be popping in to pick up a few bargains!!

Good luck Woolies, don't want to see you disappear, let's hope someone can sort you out!!!

Hey good luck hope they something for you and your work mate:thumbsup:

i posted this deal for the deal alone and not the situation at woolies. Its still a great deal so seems very cold!

however, many of the comments on here are spot on, woolies has not been a great shopping experience for a while and got left in the 20th century, however it is the smaller towns which will suffer the most, for the public for whom woolies was a vital retail outlet and for the staff where jobs are much harder to come by than in the cities. i will certainly miss it, although it should b around for a few weeks longer yet

why is this not hot
#30
hot from me - shame about the situation but somebody will buy them

meanwhile it will be like bargain city
#31
i thought this site was to air views on a good deal or bad.not to revel in the down fall of another high st giant. why not keep to the point . if it carries on like this we maybe lamenting the loss of other major retail shops,so soon there will no point having a site like HUKD,as there will be no deals to post ,only job losses:
