Well, I'm sure that all their glasses are "wearable" in the literal sense, but I take it you mean it in the fashion sense.

Glasses style is obviously personal preference, hence why there are so many different styles available.

They do have quite a range of £10 frames, so I am sure there is something for a lot of people. If none take your fancy, then this deal is not for you.

I did check Tesco opticians, as they are usually quite reasonable, and the cheapest wayfarer style from them with tints was £40.
I paid £15.95 for the same near as damnit from selectspecs. Pretty big saving, and a pretty hot deal.

what do you mean by "half decent"?

what do you mean by "half decent"?
Any half decent ones are working out to 45-50 quid with the standard lenses - not that cheap IMHO

Cant get my P.D.S low enough on order...very confusing

I ordered variofocals online from these paid for top of range lenses as I drive for a living .All I can say is never again took weeks to arrive and glasses are unusable , near vision part is miles to high so distance part is distorted, sent back waited another 5 week's and replacements are identical .A waste of 220 pound so just bear in mind if it's not a straight forward order ,better using a local optician.

Why would anybody pay £220 for a pair of glasses from an online company??? This deal is brilliant for people who want single vision lens spectacles and obviously not for anyone needing varifocals
Can highly recommend this company. Apart from the fact they are a 5 min drive away from me. Nice clean and modern store, friendly staff who don't pressure you into buying more expensive glasses. I get their £6 wayfarer style glasses, cheap, cheerful and basically throwaway. I order my glasses at their shop and within a week, maybe 10 days. They arrive.
Thanks for sharing!

Have ordered some. On completing the order it says that the budget range comes from Honk Kong and the buyer is liable for any import tax and additional VAT. Not sure how much this may add to the cost but it it doubles the price it's still cheaper that an optician. This catch probably also applies to other online sites.

I think that is more of a legal thing and import duty is only charged for large quantities not for one or 2 pairs.

Ordered one pair of the cheap ones. the online ordering system was easy and they emailed me a receipt and there were emails confirming dispatch. They came one week later in a rigid plastic case with lens cloth. Yes they are plastic lenses but there is no difference in clarity when compared to glass lenses. Also the plastic lenses make them lighter. The frames are fine and a good fit. These are excellent for the price. Although there are posts about paying import duty because they were coming from Hong Kong, these glasses came with a normal looking Royal Mail sticker and there was no duty to pay.
I got my glasses already only took 4 days to be delivered

Ordered two from the £6 range on 31/12/12 and arrived today (09/01/13). Very impressed with glasses. Posted from the UK despite receiving an email the other day stating that they have been dispatched from Hong Kong. Can't understand how they're so cheap when high streets charge 10 times as much.

Excellent price for glasses with the coatings.

I just bought a couple of pairs and noticed the message on the last page stating that special offer glasses are shipped directly from Hong Kong and that the buyer is responsible for VAT and import duties.

It might be better to buy one pair at a time to avoid the thresholds, but I'll see how it goes.

I have used Selectspecs several times and been very happy with the glasses, they do not do a great amount of cheap glasses but they are good glasses, they do take a long time to get to you but for £6 its worth the wait.

I can however agree with other people on here and vouch for Goggles4u, they have a very wide selection of glasses and cost £4.95 a pair with £1.00 for my lenses although this price does change depending on lense used. They charge £3.95 for delivery but this is for however many pairs you order, I just ordered 3 pairs and paid £21.80. Also they have a online live chat with a representative who can help at any time with your order.

If you're wanting an eye test, i'd recommend checking out one of your local opticians and not a crappy company like specsavers. Never knew what I was missing till i left specsavers (stupid issues) and went to a private one, the private one is same price or cheaper, gives free re-fittings of glasses and all sorts, while specsavers charge you up the ass and hurry you out the door as fast as they can.

agree with you 100% ok i pay more for glasses and i dont get free eye tests but the fact i can turn up and usually get any issues delt with in next to no time free of charge and the fact i took the bench glasses from specky4eyes to get altered and they where happy to do this no problems for nothing - try that with a major chain

Designer Items are shipped from our UK laboratory via the Royal Mail Postal service. Budget Items are shipped from our Hong Kong laboratory via Hong Kong Post.

Do we have to pay any import charges if posted from Honk Kong?

You only risk import charges if it's over £15 (not including postage), it used to be £18 but changed November last year...just in time to get caught out with a few Christmas orders!

Didn't know it went down to £15. Thanks.

Not sure why this is cold.
Because Tesco is £10 with personal service and no wait + plus free eye test. How is the selectspec cheaper than that?
If you dont have an eye test at tescos the glasses are no cheaper that these ones. Plus you have to get to tescos in the first place and it might be snowing lolBtw, do you get your glasses while you wait or do you have to go back?
You dont wait. You order your glasses online and fill-in your prescription, same way as any other order from selectspec or other suppliers. Either have them posted or collect from store.

I am confused now lol
Do Tescos do free eye tests? So you go to Tescos, have your free eye test then you go home and order your frames on line?

back again, just googled and found that Tescos only do free eye tests when there is an offer on. So anyone can get the free eye test. I can have a free(when available)eye test at Tescos and still choose from THOUSANDS of frames at Selectspecs from as little as £6. At tescos i can choose from around 100 pairs and i think there are only 7 pairs at £10. Is this right?

Someone posted up here that they paid £9.50 delivered for their glasses, so its cheaper than tescos and thousands more frames to choose from. Great deal by far.

Pet2000, This is for those that know their prescription and dont need the glasses for the next day.
pet2000
Cold because this is there normal price for very limited range of framed glasses.Have a look at Tesco. You can get a pair of glasses for £10 and they have a larger selection of frames. The other advantage is you get free eye test and you can collect, and therefor talk to an optician. Much better value, IMO.BTW, think carefully about anti-reflection coating. I find it not comfortable myself. I get coloured outlines on some objects (e.g. on a LCD TV screen) when the viewing angle is not exactly 90 deg, which I don't get without the coating.

If your lenses arent right you should take them back. Surely they shouldnt be like that. I just had a look at tescos glasses and i cant see they have more for less

A quick search at Tesco, between 50 and 100 pairs.

I saw 3 pairs at £10. You get free single vision standard lenses, thin and light are an extra £60

Selectspecs...
In ladies glasses it says, square/rectangular 354 pairs
semi rimless 232 etc. ladies frames over 3000 pairs
Thats a lot of frames imho.

This is copied from Selectspecs site..

**We offer an exclusive range of Single Vision prescription glasses for just £6.00 for Full Rimmed, £9.00 for Semi-Rimless and £14.50 for Rimless frames, but that's not all... We firmly believe in not hiding any hidden costs for highly recommended 'optional extras' so each pair in our cheap glasses range includes a FREE scratch resistant coating, full UV protection and anti-reflection treatment! We strongly believe you will be hard pushed to find a better value pair of glasses complete with UV, Anti-Reflection and Scratch Resistant coatings anywhere else, so get your order in quickly as availability is limited.**

Thats a big claim to make without being able to back it up.

I don't recommend this company at all. I usually order my glasses online, and never had a problem with it. I've decided to try a new site : selectspects.com. They seem to have a nice inventory at good prices. I filled my order with my prescription, and send all the required informations. I've waited 3 weeks to receive my package, and at my suprise, the prescription wasn't follow properly. I've went to a local optometrist and she told me that the PD (pupil distance) wasn't near close to what was written on my order. Basically, wearing those glasses would give me major headach and would be bad on a long term period for my vision. I've send back the package with all the explanation. That's were problems occured. First of all, they don't have a phone service, so you need to complaint by email. The approximate time to have an answer is a week. It's been roughly a month that i'm sending email back and forth, the only answer i had, it's they didn't found the product to be defective. Even on their website, there saying that if there is a disagreement with the buyer, an independant person will study the product to make sure it's right. Basically, at this point, i have no glasses, i still don't have my money, and i'm not able to speak to anyone there. So in my opinion, that's what i call "the worst customer service ever" I don't recommend that site to anyone, they , at this point, robbed me

Have PM'd you with some advice about this
Have brought 4 pairs of glasses from these in the past including a pair for under £10 when they had a special offer and not had any problems.I would definately buy from them again.

Just bought another of those £5 ones www.selectspecs.com/cheap-glasses/#rimmed

£3.50 delivery I think. Went for these because it's the first time I've ever had glasses that don't have glare/reflection. I'd never even noticed this until I got them and one day went back to my old -non-sweat shop- UK made ones. They're now unuseable in comparison.

I looked at those £10 Tesco ones but they were crap in comparison and don't have the anti-reflection.
Yes, what a stupid and ignorant comment. If we all had this attitude we'd be walking about naked. Everything is made at the cheapest price possible for the particular market.

That's economics. If you don't like it move to Cuba.
:thinking:To say this when you don't know is grossly unfair. I believe Select Specs cheaper specs come from Honk Kong but how do you know about sweat shops?

To say we should avoid anything form cheap sites means that no-one will bother to try to get better value for the consumer. Sure damn those you know about but not all!

eye will;6520257
I am amazed that no one has mentioned the obvious. They are no doubt made in sweat houses where children are paid next to nothing to work long hours. Anything this cheap has a price to pay. We should all stay clear of these cheap sites where the profits are made at the expense of childrens lives and happiness.
Well I read too many bad reviews about Select Specs and have opted to deal with Metsuki instead, who are UK based and are about the same price in my case and so far after ringing them and placing an order they've been very good.
eBuyer are still a nightmare over the phone. I think it's simply they can't cope with the amount of callers. They need to concentrate on getting their product details correct in the first place.

I have no problem with SelectSpecs having a number (or not -I don't know) as it's only £8.81. If there's a problem I make a PayPal claim or claim back with my credit card. No problem.

My experience with phoning most people about complaining is bad (and getting worse!). No good answering the phone if they can't help.

I tend to ignore most negative views of any company as much of that will be competitors and the odd bad experience. No company's perfect. If they are really bad then that shows quickly.

Cheap glasses from China, hence cheap prices and SLOW delivery. Cold IMO - not worth spending the money on.

Pay an extra ten or twenty quid and use Glasses Direct - UK Based, largest optical dispenser in the world now. Great British Entrepreneurs!
I can also agree that there postage times are TERRIBLE. I ordered a set in mid December, which didn't come until 3 weeks after there stated delivery time (the day before they could report them 'missing' to royal mail.)

Unfortunately this is where the tale turns sour. The glasses were not as described on their website and with no Distance Selling Regs to fall back on (it doesn't apply to tailor made goods & therefore any prescription glasses...) I was left with a long slog through trading standards to get the cash back.

I have got the money back now, but it took 6 months, loads of emails, letters and a home visit from trading standards, to get it.

At £8.50, it might be worth a punt, but would caution spending huge amounts with them after this experience.

I bought two pairs at this price when they last had this offer. The glasses are as good as any costing far more. The delivery however is very slow. It would be better if the company were honest and explained that the glasses have to come from the far east and it will take weeks. They were however very quick to take the money.

I would agree with above comments, my glasses were delivered today (14th)having been ordered on 2nd July, I was surprised to see that the package had come from Hong Kong, nowhere on their site does it mention overseas, that is not to say that I am dissatisfied with the glasses in any way......
I bought two pairs at this price when they last had this offer. The glasses are as good as any costing far more. The delivery however is very slow. As long as it's not a rimless pair with both lenses cracked, practically any optician can reglaze (re-lens) a pair of specs.
They'll just use the current lenses as a template.

Sounds like VE are trying to encourage you to get a new pair of specs.

Thanks, will look into that, no there not rimless, unfortunatly he did buy another pair so they did a good job of coning us then, but he still prefers his old pair.

Heat Added, Fantastic site, Thanks
We are very intrested in the re-lenseing old frames that this site does, my other half has a designer frame which he loves but Vision Express cant re-lense it as they no longer have the template as the frame is about 3 years old now.
Thanks

I purchased some prescription sunglasses from SelectSpecs about 6 months ago, and was very pleased with them. Delivered from Hong Kong.
Forgot to mention, I've used Spex4Less before and their customer service was excellent. The only reason I'm trying Glasses Direct is that they were cheaper for designer frames, which this time I wanted.
