I would say so.

The CX500 were a higher end product than the original CX300 in terms of both specification and price. Therefore I would think the CX500 would be better than the new CX300 mark 2.

I owned the old CX300 and listened to the CX500 briefly today and they did indeed sound better - cleaner, less distorted and the volume was much louder. Also I think the CX500 don't distort much when played at high volume.

The CX500 also comes with a volume control and pouch.

I really rate sennheiser as a brand, good hardy equipment.

Thats a superb price, I have the 300's but thats only because the 500's were so expensive and i usually end up putting mine through the wash.

To me these headphones sounded just like the CX300's. But, perhaps that was just the source I was using.

I do find the volume control really annoying. Personally I am sticking with my CX300's, but this is still a HOT deal. Perhaps if I didn't already have CX300's I would be buying

Bought these a couple of weeks ago. Pretty good set of kit. Much better (and louder) than the standard ipod headphones.

Beware of ordering from play though. Ordered CX500's and they sent me CX300's not once but TWICE. Finally delivered the correct ones but to the wrong address. Totally useless.

Just went to order these but realised they're in-ear! :( Can anyone recommend any headphones similar to the regular iPod ones please?

I didn't mean to be rude and if i sounded so i apologize. As you mentioned it was really early. But I knew I'd seen the same deal pretty recently and after finding it at the top of the search results i pointed that out, maybe a little too abruptly.

Aren't the ipod ones in-ear to?? I know what you mean though, some don't like the silicone bit that goes inside the ear.

have a look on play.com because Sennheiser do some jogging headphones which fit differently, and sound pretty good

Bought a pair of these and they are much better than the CX300's I have, much louder, much better bass and mid ends and a noticable improvement on the highend, plus it came with a carry case, rubber strip with indents for the buds and a place to wind the cable and many more sizes of silicone earplugs, which should suit anyone, and finally stops my phones from falling out whilst jogging.
One thing though, play seem not to know what excess packaging means, the actual blister pack the phones are in is relitivly small about 7" x 3" x 2", but the box they sent them in was 16" x 10" x 6" and filled with packing peanuts to stop it from rattling about

Still available... unexpired :)

Yup. Play can suck and mess up on 1 in every 10 orders I place. Online retailer of the year me ar$e!

Ordered 22/09/2009 and the status is still packing:(

This has reminded me why I don't use Play.com anymore! They're totally useless and delivery takes ages. If anywhere else would have had them for a couple of quid more I'd have bought elsewhere... but was taken in by the price unfortunately.
