Sounds like a good price for a great brand. I'd love them but could never get them to stay in my ears.
#2
How do these compare to the CX500 ? I got a pair of these last week and they ROCK!
#3
Was just about to order the CX500s last week from Play but they suddenly went back up to £66.95. The in-line volume would have been handy.

Also would be interested how these cx55s compare.

My CX500's are not legit from Play,
They look the part but comparing them to the sound quality that I had on my old pair (one earphone broke) it is tinny and no bass, poor quality.

Just a warning, noticed another buyer from the CX500 thread also noticed this.

Reported this to play and still waiting on a reply. Be warned when buying these.

Just had a real close inspection of mine and your right, my CX500's from play.com are also fake! Will be returning these asap, please keep me posted on how your claim goes through.

WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF CONTRAVENTION?
It is the responsibility of the trader to take all reasonable precautions to avoid having counterfeit products for sale on his premises. Contravention may result in prosecution for offences under the Trade Descriptions Act, Trade Marks Act or Copyright, Design and Patents Act. Fines of up to £5,000 can be imposed in the Magistrates Court and/or imprisonment for up to six months. Unlimited fines may be imposed by the Crown Court with up to ten years imprisonment for trade marks offences. Forfeiture and destruction of all goods seized may be ordered by the Courts.
Theft Act - in appropriate cases, prosecution for deception may be appropriate. Under copyright legislation, a copyright owner may also sue for damages in the civil courts. If you are offered goods of any description which you suspect as being counterfeit, you may pass any information about the seller to an Officer of the Trading Standards Department, in confidence or anonymously if you wish. Any information will be of use - names, addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle types and registration numbers.

RELEVANT LEGISLATION

Trade Descriptions Act 1968
Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and the Trade Marks Act 1938

I'm contacting Trading Standards. The sheer fact I've received the goods from a seller I trusted is enough. Somebody has made a big mistake in their offices. BTW, they have no contact number.

Strange thing is, kewldeals on the other thread said this:

"Called Sennheiser, and the staff member told me they have a big contract with play.com - so are genuine. She suggested I don't buy from Amazon Marketplace / ebay. Hope this help"

I dont have the packaging anymore, but can someone check this out who does?

Mine is still sealed in the packaging and it exhibits most of the tell tale signs. The PET markings on the bottom do not match up, the packaging is of substandard quality and malformed and the "holder gap" is cut very uncleanly. The earphones themselves do look impeccable and the paper packaging appears ok but I am not willing to cut everything open to check. Especially as others have commented on poor quality which I don't expect of these considering I have had numerous good headphones to compare against should I choose too.

I've filed a return for the product with Play.com and informed them I strongly suspect they are fake. I'm assuming the person who stated that play.com and sennheiser had a major deal spoke to a play.com customer services employee? Maybe worth ringing sennheiser, telling them directly. Remember that play.com is Jersey based and outside the UK jurisdiction on our trading laws and Jersey's are definitely not as tight as ours...

interesting reading... i have not received mine which i ordered last week... quite concerned im getting fakes!!!
#11
I have checked my CX500s and compared with the pics in the fake detection page...

All looks good: >PET< is written in the right place, the print on the back is not blue/green, the photo of the guy on the front is very clear and you can see the light reflections in his eyes. The only thing that I can't tell from the pics is the cut hole... mine is a very clear moulded hole on both sides but the bit where they meet in the middle is a little crinkled.

They sound great - much clearer and louser than my £35 Sony ones with a thumpin' bass too. I don't think they are fakes but who knows? Anyone got an address to send the packing to at Sennheiser to confirm?

It would be a sad day when you find out a trader such as Play is selling fakes. I honestly cannot believe this and think that sennheisers quality control has gone a bit downhill - trying to cut costs etc in such a competitive industry for cheaper products - Play may be turning the screws on getting the cost down.

Fakes from Play? Unbelievable! Are you sure it's not Play Trade?
#15
They MUST have been from Playtrade and not direct from Play.com. They would only buy direct from manufacturers in most cases, and definataly with Sennheiser. Play is THE best place to purchase CX headphones from!
#16
think i may have got fake CX500s from eBay, not too bothered though, thye sound fine. only thing i'd say is negative is they seemt o be a wee bit too small for my ears and eaisily pop out but, could just be me :D

Unbelievable!! The guy this link points to, who tells us all how to spot fakes, is actually a scammer himself. :-(
Read the comments on his ebay feedback here;
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Bare faced cheek to lure people in with his helpful, 'how to spot fakes' routine and then take their money and run. :x

The direct link was not allowed here, so use the 'fakes' link above and then click on his name top left to go to his feedback page.
I've now edited out the direct link.

The ones I got from Play recently, seem to be genuine according to that guide.....

Still not opened them yet....

I think he probably created a sense of security in peeps with his 'how to spot fakes' guide and then waited for the orders to come in before vanishing and also before the bad feedback appeared.
Though I didn't compare the date when his guide was posted in relation to the dates of the negative feedback posts from punters.

He even had the cheek to print this at the foot of his guide!!

The date of his guide in bold below and the negative feedback was from July 31st '08, so he built up a bit of trust then vanished with the money 3 months on.

That guy ended up selling fakes himself, there is no real guide in telling, the fakes look exactly like the real ones, i have had the real and fakes and there was hardly any difference in the earphones. But my real ones were from pcworld and had a totally different design in packaging.

I got the white CX500s from PLAY and they were definitely real.

Im pretty the CX500s are genuine, the ONLY trouble Ive had with mine is with harsh treble and slightly overblown base on poor quality songs. Check the size of the song, 320Kbps is ideal, not sure what the average size for an MP3 at 320Kbps is sorry.

Anyway how does this pair compare to the CX500? Thanks.

Personally I wouldn't touch PlayTrade with a barge pole after a dodgy experience buying Sennheiser PX200's off the Amazon marketplace that were fake. I know, I know, one's Amazon, the other's Play but it's the same "independent trader" setup. IMHO it's a shame Play and Amazon have harmed their reputation by allowing association with these eBay-style scammers but that's another conversation...

If you want CX500's at a decent price, try Advanced MP3 Players, I just bought a pair a month back to replace my previous CX300 set that gave up on one side and I'd highly recommend 'em.

Linky

I know they are the gaming edition, but apparently the only difference is that the cable is 100mm shorter (confirmed by advancedmp3players and also by Sennheiser :?)! And you can be sure they are 100% genuine from this site.

The ones people are accusing of being fake are actually from Play, not PlayTrade, im like you when it comes to marketplace/auctions.

I've got mine white CX500 from Play.com and it hard to say fake it or not.
They sound not bad, but there is no bass at all. Can anyone confirm the bass thing on CX500?
#31
wow, got my cx55. very real, very good bass, superb isolation, amazing!

Without wishing to cause offence - have you tried pushing them further into your ear. They need to go quite a long way in and create a seal to function correctly. One sure sign of not having them in properly is a tinny sound with a lack of bass. 'course they maybe fakes if they're from Play trade too.

Anyone know the difference in sound quality between Cx 55's and CX 500s
