Using Sennheiser's most advanced driver technology, the HD595s offer exceptional comfort and sound quality.

"Eargonomic acoustic refinement" is a newly designed technology that channels the audio signal directly into the listener's ears to give unparallel levels of detail. Meticulously designed driver units provide the typical Sennheiser balance of exceptional accuracy without harshness over long periods of listening.

Do not really need an amp, just good source, PC sound cards are usually rubbish, but it does not change the fact that a good source with an amp will make them siiiiinnnggg...

Are these much better than the 555's ?

I still use an old set of 424x's. And I find that using them through an amp makes a huge difference.

Yes, a different class. 595 are considered to be a Pro grade, not consumer like 555.

I believe these come in two impedances. This version is very low impedance and will be fine with portable sources or PCs (my laptop drives them fine). An amp may make a difference but is not necessary at all. You would be better off putting more money into getting (even) better headphones than buying an amp.

Anyway I bought these for £100 in a previous deal and they are excellent. They are light weight and nicely padded so I find myself using them more often than my more expensive and better sounding Denon D2000s.

Actually both the HD555 and the HD595 are in Sennheiser's consumer range but then so are the top-end £1000 HD800s. But the 595s are significanty better than the 555s and are definitely worth £100 if you care about sound quality.

Oh, I love my Denons, although it can get hot under the cans after a long time of use, due to closed type cans.

I think so, but looking at the Sennheiser website they don't mention it but I swear someone I know had some higher impedance onces they bought in the past. But I may just be talking balls.

Anyway, as you say, they definitely don't need an amplifier. £70? That is a real bargain.

EDIT: wait, I just checked the previous deal on here then checked my email records and it turns out I also paid £70 for them from Play a couple of months ago. Phew.

Is this deal still on? I see £129.95... (but then I'm not a VIP - is VIP cheaper?)
