anyone know how these compare to the CX500s?

Note the jack plug size in the specs

it says 2.5mm - Not the usual 3.5mm

I bought earlier a fake Sennheiser CX300II and asked to be refunded. Some guy posted an url link to a webpage about fake Sennheiser. Funny thing is that the box looked 100% genuine whilst the headphone looked similar to this one. I would urge caution as that "Sennheiser CX300II" sounded worse than our Nokia or Blackberry headphone.

Are these markedly better than the ones you can get free when you buy anything from Richer Sounds?

Although the MyMemory listing does say 2.5mm in more than one place. Is this just a multiple typo, or is there something odd about these phones? I think I would get some confirmation in writing from MyMemory before ordering these, especially as they don't take them back if they are opened. If they are genuine and have 3.5mm jack, then this is a good price.

I'm using these great value and sound earphones, Wharfdale £5 . I've had seinheisser before but I do tend to break earphones easily so I go for the cheap option.

If someone has both pairs, could they compare them?

Wharfedale are another Argos own brand (They have fingers in the pie) and are very poor quality goods on par with bush/goodmans and other generic poor support rubbish that Argos can offer. Proper Seinheisser will sound far better in comparison.

Years ago I used to like their speakers and the brand name was a high end one something changed and being associated with companies like Argos has done them no favours. Argos have used the wharfedale name for their TV's and DVD players & certain goods like ipod docks etc they are poor quality in comparison to the speakers/company of old. Getting support for products eg info etc is a nightmare with wharfedale /bush/goodmans gear made for Argos.

The headphones you linked to might be half decent and OK for sound and might not suffer from the usual symptons that cheap headphones usually offer which is left/right vanishing after a break in poor quality cable/connector. If you like them thats what counts.

LOL! my problem is due to my sinusitus and the CX500s stick in your ears and thus cause further pressure in my ears. Thus i am after some that just sit in your ears and not penetrate them!
