I tried loads of sets.. I went for the sennheiser momentum's in the end. They sound superb imo. I'm running them off a fiio hi-res player and fiio mont blanc amp.

Oooh, I took a chance on some ex-display "new other" (not used apparantly, only the box was on display) ones from ebay, the guy had 100% feedback and is sending the receipt for the 2 yr warranty - £106 inc postage so £20 odd saved there, plus my 1% TCB and some nectar points :D

What puts me off those is the 'massive bass' claim. I expect Sennheiser to be better than Beats.

The claim is false. Bass is alright and not too overpowered.

Haha maybe for your taste. The urbanite series is easily as bad as beats.

They funny thing is that they are not bass overpowering or bass heavy as they claim. These have a awesome sound.

There is no doubt these were designed and marketed to compete with Beats.

This video sums it all up:

Sennheiser Momentum's are the ultimate bluetooth headphones.

Urbanite XL's are that not far behind and for £128, they are an absolute steal.

The funny thing is even Momentum's are bass orientated. Very rich & warm sounding. Lacking detail. Suggests that the Urbanite XL must be even worse.

Momentums are warm sounding. And while the detail is not audiophile grade, there is still plenty of it. They have good midrange to bass balance and manage to avoid sibilance most of the time.
Urbanite is a completely different driver and different sound signature. Will appeal to many.

That's where we have to agree to disagree. Having heard them myself where some people were raving about them (first hand experience) I noticed due to there rich & warm sound detail was severely masked. I think you could do better. However I'm not sure what bluetooth headphones there are out there in said price range, you might need to forego that feature.

Sennheiser are OK but overpriced to start with, they seem to have this illusions that their high end brand, I got a pair of their headphones for £35, which should been £90, but didn't feel it was bargain just right price to pay for them

I was referring to the wired version. I haven't listened to the bt one. I assumed they sound the same when wired and powered down. But the electronics and bt transmission will probably change the sound quite a bit.
I wouldn't expect any wireless headphone using Bluetooth to show much detail due to the protocol bandwidth limitations.

Just gripped a new pair of BeyerDynamic DT990 Pro 250ohm. Last pair gave me 20 years use an I love them every day!

They sound like £20,000 speakers and cost £107. :)

These are great for mixing and mastering too.

Hi mate yes and no I use them with a mixer, Presonus USB audio interface, iphone, a little Tascam DR05 recorder, various bit and pieces. 250ohm is fine for most stuff. IMO it's the best compromise.

I had 600ohm previously and that demands an output with sufficient current reserves like on the mixer. I wouldn't use those with a regular output often, but with 250ohm the sound qulity is still great on most stuff I use it with an iphone.

Volume needs notching up a tad but I haven't crossed anything that won't go loud enough yet...
#30
Just to be clear the mixer I'm talking about has a dedicated headphone power circuit so yeah that's an amp..

I'm guessing you're talking about Fiio type amps...
#31
Just to say, I'm not impressed with the Urbanite XL wireless at all - can't move more than a few feet from the bluetooth source without the sound getting all stuttery - also the max loudness is pretty pathetic on wireless mode. My trust old (cheapo) KS Arena's manage those two things better, can even get upstairs to the loo with them on (the sound quality is of course better on the XL's) so it's all a bit "meh", glad I didn't pay RRP for these!
