Got one of those. I tested it and it is indeed waterproof (put a full bath for 2 hrs and not a drop of water inside). Haven't tested for fire, obviously, lol. £40 seems a bit expensive though. I bought mine for £12 in a sale last year (can't remember where).

There are many different models. Cheaper ones are smaller, and for paper only (won't protect magnetic items like hard disks, or USB drives).

The reviews on the amazon.com website seem to indicate that this safe is not suitable for storing digital media:

There also seem to be some concerns about the robustness of the hinge.

Still looks good for the money. Does anyone know how effective these safes actually are at protecting documents in a house fire?

It is currently on offer at costco for 19.99 + VAT. That is the cheapest i guess. So will rate it cold
