Top movie... Now only £2.99! (Quidco 4% I believe)

Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity, the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series, Firefly. A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, Serenity follows captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on, Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher and Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.

Many of the film's action sequences revolve around Summer Glau's martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a result performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film's actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity's future.

Voted hot as it is a great price, however . . .

The film is rubbish, especially if you've seen the series. My main reason for saying this is because some of the character's personalities are sooooooo far removed from what they're like in the series that it's just ridiculous. It's like Joss Whedon suffered a bump on the head at the end of series party and contracted a case of explosive amnesia, he was then handed the crib notes to Firefly and told to write a movie.

There are more reasons why it's naff but I'd be getting into the realms of spoilers so I shan't.

At least 6 too many Os there ;) Yes there are differences in character (personally I think Simon is the only one who changes significantly), but that's easily explained by the fact that several months have passed between the end of the series and the beginning of the movie.

Preferred the TV Series. Voted hot for good price.

Great movie of an even better series. You should just buy it to boost the sales figures to increase the miniscule chance of it being resurrected. From miniscule to about 1 molecule above miniscule.

Apparently there's a special edition DVD due for release in the summer at some point though, so some people might wanna wait. Although at this price I don't know why. When you consider the dross you've paid a fiver to see at the cinema you can't argue with £3 for a, at worst, very decent film.

Even got voted the best Sci-Fi film ever. Ahead of Star Wars. Which says something for the film but a lot more for free time some of the fans have!

Try getting out more. :w00t:

It's not THAT bad, if you enjoyed the series, like I did then you've probably seen this already, if not, then it's a no brainer.

But it's not THAT good either! Hardly a Blade Runner or a Forbidden Planet.

Still craps on, say, SW episode 1 and 2, but then again, what doesn't.

Let me guess.. you'd not seen the TV series FireFly first?

Get that from play at the same time and watch it before the film

TV Series £14.99 and then the film for £2.99

A total bargin!

Never seen the series but I like space films.

This is a good one - an honest space adventure, with enough action to keep most happy.

Bargain I say! (cheapest I've seen in the shops was £6)

Even cheaper with 5% discount.

Also don't forget Quidco!

OK... saw the deal and entered this thread to see if it was worth purchasing (shouldn't prove to difficult for £3!), but I've never seen such a conflicting list of ratings :giggle:

Looks like this really is a case of you either love it or hate it!

this movie is one of the best sci-fi's out there and once youve seen it you get to explore the characters in a lot more detail in the Firefly series. Mal, the captain of Serenity, is what drives the series along and the reason why this series has maintained such a huge fanbase so long after the series was cancelled. At this price this movie is a steal, id watch it before watching the series though.

People who dont like Serenity just dont like sci-fi. Voted hot.
