I like the words "limited stock" they always run this promotion, previously they have been free but trading standards had a go at them because they were not free as they did not cost £9.95 to post so perhaps thats why they charge £1.99, reports on the knives are not that good, the handles are hollow and they got into trouble for that, they make them sound that they are forged hand made knives, they are made in china just like most other goods these days. Seems to be they are about worth the tenner or so they cost. Also delivery complaints people say that they can wait up to three months.

i have the jean patrique warehouse near me and went there with my email print off couple of months ago and they sold them to me there and then i got the set of three knives and this set of 5 plus a serrated 5 inch knife and i paid less than £5 for all of them. they are extremely sharp and very light weight to hold however i have noticed there is some rust spot forming on a couple of the ones i have used more frequently, they don't recommend that you dishwasher them so i haven't yet still have rust marks.

They say they are guaranteed for life so i guess they will end up going back and getting replaced sooner or later.

These are good knives for the silly price if you can assess a shop or distribution centre, but i wouldn't pay the postage for them.

Apparently, they are excess stock from abroad and they need to get rid of them!

I have a set of these knives, via the same sort of offer and they actually quite good! I have a steel for sharpening and I give the knife I'm using a quick sharpen once every other week (depending on how I use the knife!), they been very good.

Jean Patrique are a quality brand of kitchen pots, pans and cutlery. I thought the price was too good to be true, so when I was in Birmingham I went into their shop. Yes, they do sell these knives at the price quoted.

The point of selling these at £1 or free plus the postage is simply a matter of marketing. They do something similar with their pans (£99 or so for a set of 12). These package are a sample of their knives or pans and may not be exactly what you need, so you after using them (and hopefully satisfied) you will go out and buy the ones you need at full price.

I've had a set of these knives for FIVE YEARS and have not had a problem; I just sharpen them on a regular basis. They are light and sharp and look quite good. Compare similar one in House of Fraser or John Lewis and you will see that they start as a set in excess of £150. I've also had a set of their pans for over TEN years and in a household that has heavy usage they are just as good as they were on day one; again a similar set of pans in HoS or JL starts around the £300 mark and I paid £99.

You can't even pick up 'rubbish' (last a week) knives for this price; so hot from me.

Thanks to the OP for bringing this to the attention of people who haven't benefited.

Why do people see 'light' knives as being a plus point? No chef would use hollow light knives as surely they wouldnt be balanced properly.

Always on offer in food magazines - desperate to sell them off I assume. COLD

It's a marketing ploy to get you to buy other knives at full price. In the trade it's called a loss leader. The knives you get may not be everything you need/require, so you will go out and buy the rest in the set.

The knives are perfectly balanced. Many professional chefs use hollow knives, so it is not unique or unusual to find hollow knives. I've had professional chefs using knives from my set and they haven't complained about them being hollow, over-light or imbalanced. Clearly there are better knives out there, but I don't need to spend £150 to £200 for a set. These do me fine, I don't even need the others in the set.
