I think you join Setanta at your own risk many forums about trying to cancel and not being able to.
#3
We had this kind of offer on here a few months ago, and lots of people had trouble getting cancelled, overcharging etc.

I was glad I didnt bother.
#4
The Sky connection charge appears to be £14.99 - I've gone for it and chose to pay via Direct Debit (hopefully to avoid any issues)

Do not touch these clowns with the proverbial barge pole!!!!

It took me the best part of SIX MONTHS to cancel with them despite there being no contract, you will find random payments coming out of your bank account for which they will apologise but refuse to refund you but instead offer you "free" months watching!

Seriously stay away, whilst this looks like a good deal and yes many will want to watch the fight you will be opening up the biggest can of worms of your life!

Without doubt the worst company I have EVER dealt with!!

Best to buy something like http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321203/Trail/searchtext%3ESETANTA.htm at Argos if u r interested in Hopkins/Calzaghe and can maybe get 2/3 Premier League matches b4 the season is out - obviously no quidco etc and only appropriate if you have the right slot available on ur LCD/Plasma/Freeview Box

£20 cost but no hassle of account termination .......... I haven't bought one ..... but someone can correct me if I have given any wrong advice! :-D

***** Do not touch *****

its a scam, why is it so cheap, as they want your bank details and then you will find it very hard to contact them to cancel.

you only have to search google on "cancelling setanta", I got these for a special deal and it took me months to cancel and said I'd never get them again no matter who was fighting. I just watch the football streams and do with out them (and sometimes it is sescama (ireland) being streamed anyway)
#8
Yeah, I had problems trying to cancel, I would not take up this offer!!!!!!
#9
They still owe me £10 after taking a payment after my cancellation period. It took so long and cost so much in phone calls when I cancelled that I haven't bothered phoning them up.
Couple that with intimidation techniques used when the mother in law cancelled and it's clear to see these deserve to go out of business.

Besides, the content is rubbish. Only 1 channel on Freeview when I last looked
#10
It is possible to cancel a direct debit or standing order whenever you want. I cannot see how they can get money from your account if you really want to cancel.
#11
I'm in the process of cancelling as the boxing ends tonight. Sent the letter recorded delivery and followed it up with emails. Still no reply. On Monday I'll be cancelling the direct debit with my bank. How can they get more money from my bank account?

You can, you cancel the DD, they send you a letter saying that you are now in arrears and please RING THEM on a 0871 number to sort it out........ it goes rapidly down hill from there.

They don't leave notes on your account when you ring toeither cancel or renew under another discounted tariff and its like talking to a brick wall, total &^*&^^&%^%s......I threatened taking a small claim out against them and although it's the principal it really isn't worth my hassle for a couple of quid they owe me,

stay well clear, go to your local pub and watch the boxing, ours is doing the fight & a curry for £3 (no quidco :whistling:)

cancel your DD NOW, they can take up to 30 days to process a letter, they're never in a rush

You're correct, the point is that they can't get the money after cancellation od DD, that accepted, it's the fact that they then send you letters asking you to ring them on their expensive number to sort out your arrears with them because they couldn't collect.... it costs more to ring them up to sort it out than to buy a months tv subscription :?.... ignore their letters and they threaten the legal route for £1.89 arrears, the whole thing just really isn't worth the hassle.

Unfortunately, you ARE wrong. You would think that it's just a case of activating your card & enjoying your free month, but no.

You have to set up an account (together with bank details). You will then find that despite having activation & the first month's subscription included with your card, they will immediately take another months subscription. When you (eventually) get through on their 0870 number, they claim that there is a two month rolling contract & you only get your free month when you cancel!

I had enough of their lousy quality broadcast & poor content last month. Called to cancel & was talked into continuing for the next 3 months at £5 per month. Accepted that for the boxing & what do you know, they took the usual full subscription. Apparently that was an "admin error" & I too can have a "free month".

As has been said previously, if you really can't resist then ensure that you opt for direct debit. If you opt for credit/debit card you are doomed.

I do not believe that any organisation could be this consistently incompetent which suggests in turn, that they are deliberately & knowingly dishonestly taking payments to which they know they are not entitled.

yeah, we had trouble cancelling them after that promo they ran at the start of the footy season, complete and utter toss customer services, absolute joke.

shame, because their coverage of prem games isn't that bad, mcmanamanamanamanaman and sir les are easily two of the best pundits on the circuit just a pity about their current paymasters.

always cracks me up when they plug a Blue square game during a prem match as if anyone is actually gonna end up watching it, tho they try and make them sound as big as man u v arsenal, etc.

talk about polishing a turd.

Whilst the content on setanta is getting better and better i agree with the last poster, DO NOT under any circumstances register using credit/debit card, otherwise there is no way you can stop them taking money out of your account.

Its a very old trick that companies rarely use nowadays.

DD is the way to go. I had to unfortunately go the legal way and got my money back but setanta now refuse to subscribe me to watch any of the fights etc, wonder why? :whistling:

Chuckled to myself when I saw this - I can't stress enough that this company are crooks - DO * NOT * DEAL * WITH * THIS * COMPANY * you will regret it.........

good deal voted hot, but already have sentanta. I didn't have any problems canceling at the end of the football season last year, but my only gripe would be that they charge you the £10 connection fee when you reconnect, which I was told when I first suscribed they would waver, so when I went to suscribe again they told me I had to pay the £10 connection fee again. Not much you can do about this if you have only been told over the phone that they will waver it. So I guess it boils down to wether you really want to pay it or not.

Hi!

oh dear, now I am worried I got the CAM Pack yesterday and signed up online with my Credit Card... now I am concerned that in 30 days when I cancel I am going to have a nightmare! wish I hadnt read this post now... it did say clearly though that I had to subscribe for 2 months! arghhhhh a nightmare to come in 30 days...

Gawd I thought it was just me that had problems cancelling. After waiting for 20 minutes on the phone i just cancelled the DD. You wouldn't believe the amount of high pressure texts and phone calls i got off them. One time a woman called me with her pushy sales technique so I tryed selling her an old bike that I had in the shed, she got confused to say the least lol.

You could ask your CC Company for a new card (with new number) and to cancel all recurring charges. In my experience the sales team ususally are very happy to do this (guess some get a credit for a new account - even if you are cancelling one !)

IF EVERY ONE COMPLAINS TO BBC WATCH DOG THEY WILL INVESTIGATE AND SORT THE COMPANY OUT. IN THIS DAY AND AGE COMPANIES CANNOT BEHAVE LIKE THIS AND GET AWAY WITH IT. THIS SORT OF BAD PUBLICITY CAN COST A COMPANY MILLIONS AND IT LOOKS LIKE SETANTA DESERVE IT. SHAME REALLY BECAUSE THE ACTUAL COVERAGE IS QUIET GOOD. HERE IS THE LINK. ALSO THREATED WITH THIS WHEN YOU WANT TO CANCEL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/

shame the footie season is nearly over -
:-(

was going to join when they started the Arsenal tv channel - but as everyone states - I was warey due to them not canncelling when you want to!

I have also heard their picture quality is rubbish too! - really pixellated and blocky due to them not having enough bandwidth to send the info down - so they comress it too hard causing dire quialty audio and video
#32
Thanks for the advice, will phone the credit card company when they mess me around in 30 days times... also appreciate the direct number, very useful! oh good times are coming :(
You never know I might be an exception to the rule ;-)

I think the Watchdog post is a good idea... I will when things go wrong... shame its when and not if!

This is totally sound advice! I signed up 2 days ago to watch the Old Firm and paid £50 for the CAM pack in Argos. Didn't work and i missed the match so tried to cancel - well i had a job getting Argos to refund the pack even though it didn't work. Had to phone customer services and they phoned the store and made the manager return it for me. Now for me to cancel i have to ring up 15th May then write to them asking for a refund! Even though I tried to cancel 3 hours after signing up? Seriously NEVER do business with this company they are a complete joke...

I took advantage of the 2months for £1 offer ages ago. I rang up to cancel it. I really struggled to get through to Setanta. It took me about 10 long phone calls on hold to finally get through. Lines are open from 8am to 11pm yet any time of the day there is a long wait.

When I did finally get through I was offered a deal where I paid £4.99 a month so I decided to keep my subscription running. I have still been charged £9.99 for the 2 months since and again I am having the same problem contacting them. If you email they send an auto reply saying that they will reply to your email within 5 days. 5 Days to reply to an email is **** poor. I would expect a big company to reply to an email withing 24 hours max. I sent them an email 3 weeks ago and I still ahve not recived a reply.

As others have said cancelling the direct debt causes problems. The next route I am going to go down to cancel is put it in writting to them and send it to them by recorded post.

I wish I had never signed up in the first place!

I totally agree with all the warnings to avoid this abysmal company.

I have also had money taken from my bank which should not have happened - £15 instead of £9.99 despite repeated assurances only the lower amount would be taken. Yes, you can contact your bank and ask for a reversal of the charge if wrong, using the Direct Debit Guarantee, however banks prefer you to contact supplier first, which with Setanta is, in my experience, and judging by the hundreds of forum postings I have read, the experience of many people, a time-wasting nightmare.

Despite having cancelled by phone, recorded delivery, (twice because Royal Mail were unable to confirm delivery for over a month), phone again, email, (which they refused to accept - said I must phone), I have received two calls this week from Setanta saying I must set-up my Direct Debit again as I cancelled before they took final payment. I told them, (by letter, by email, by web-form, and by phone), they owe me money as they have on three separate occasions overcharge me. Now I am getting SMS on my mobile.

Dear Customer, Can you please contact Setanta Sports on 08712 00 44 05. It is urgent that we speak yo you regarding your account. Thanks - Setanta Sports.

tipsygent gave you the number for their Sunderland customer centre above and I will give you the address to send your cancellation by Recorded Delivery:

Setanta Sports
PO Box 800
Kirkcaldy
Fife
KY2 6WD

You will be able to check the status of your cancellation letter that you send through the post using Royal Mails Track & Trace service that lets you get an electronic Proof of Delivery, so you can see exactly who signed for your item. You may need this, if there is a dispute and if you end-up in court.

Best of luck!

Just a word of advice, i had EXACTLY the same scenario, talked into the extra 3 months buyt they took full 9.99, i was told admin error and they'd take nothing out the next month...........C***p, they took the 9.99 out again, luckily i noticed my online bank on that day, cancelled , my DD and the 9.99 never went out.
Two things are for sure
1) They will take out 9.99 next month
2) They will have no record of your cancellation phone-call or the new 3 monther you were offered
3) They will not listen to you

I asked them to switch my tv on for four days as this would satisfy all the monies that had been paid but the supervisor refused !!!!!!
I told them to stuff it & stuff their 30 day notice of termination as they had broken the contract

Good Luck
