This is a very good board game. It is supposed to be for 3 or 4 players but you can play with 2 players with a little modification to the rules or buy the 5-6 player expansion.

One of the most successful games of all time, Settlers of Catan is a trading and building game set in the mythical world of Catan. Players roll dice to determine which resources are generated each round and then must strategically trade those resources with other players to get what they need to build their settlements, cities and roads. With multiple ways to gain victory points and a board that changes in every play, Settlers of Catan is a game that can be played hundreds of different ways. The base of a hugely successful franchise, with multiple engaging expansions, Settlers is the core game of many collections, and is a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends.

Looks like a good game. If anyone is interested in Pandemic (played once), PM and Ill put up a FS thread.
Realise my Mrs isnt into board games, and sadly its not a solo game.

This brings back memories..... spent nights playing this when I was a student. But the fun really starts when you get some extension packs in.
Hot deal in any case!

Yes the extensions can be combined. IMHO the most essential is the Seafarers extension:

Once you have added this one you can't imagine having ever played without. Also Cities and Knights was good as far as I remember - have last played some 10 years ago or so, damn, I am getting old :/

has anyone got wood for sheep?

Reminds me of the golden rule: never ever play with a couple. Otherwise it will either end up in tears and shouting or some unfair (for the others) trading :)

If you want to "try before you buy" you can download a limited PC version of the game (with Cities and Knights and Seafarers expansion options here:

with a full tutorial.

It's good (if you've got no friends), but I prefer playing the board game version against human opponents...

Amazon are selling a few good games at decent prices at the moment. I've just created another post for Carcassonne at £11.99 which I thought was pretty decent.

I'd be interested in hearing any rule variations for a 2 player game. This is how I play a 2 player game and it works very well.

set the board up as normal.

12 victory points wins the game

any victory point development cards must be revealed as soon as they are picked up. These count towards your score immediately.

when a 7 is rolled. you only lose half your cards if you have 9 or more. Whoever has the fewest victory points moves the robber and steals a resource. If both players have the same number of victory points, the robber is moved by the roller as normal.
