what's the difference between the v581 and v681?
the v681 is £399.

581 doesn't upscale but it does pass through 4k so if you have 4k source I. E Netflix 4k and 4k TV you'll be fine
MiahAM2013
v681 has 4K upscaling, v581 doesn't - so I wouldn't consider buying this.
Only 3x HDMI inputs are 2.2 - HDCP on v681 vs 4x 2.2 HDMI ports on the v581. Maybe enough for you?
The wattage per speakers is greater - v681 is 90w vs v581 is 80w.
To me what's important -
1. 4K upscaling.
2. v2.2 HDCP on all HDMI ports.
3. High wattage per speakers - will come handy when having a house party! With the radio playing on the AV or using the Android TV.X)
4. HDR.
5. DTS-X.
6. ATMOS.
7. Great headphones High fidelity support - supporting various virtual hi-fi environments - to keep Misses happy and me enjoying my ManCave. oO
thanks!...gotta be the v681 then

Just sent a price match request for John Lewis but not sure they will as its collection only but worth a try. As Yeovil a good 150 miles away for me.

I got mine price matched at JL the day this was on stock.
Don't see the point in avoiding oled at this point. It's definitely the way forward. I really can't see myself buying lcd anymore.
Oled are better but for the people who can't afford the expensive technology Samsung have it
Cro_Baron
Samsung have 2 of best tvs in 2 price bands.

Yeah budget bands no doubt, they are making their LCD based screens brighter and brighter, but still poor compared with OLED.

Even Sony are making OLED now, Samsung will be left behind

Been looking at this model for a while but not yet bitten. Had a couple of very decent soundbars over the years but found them lacking even though reviews by so called "experts" raved about them. I have not heard this sound bar yet but have high hopes for it (fingers crossed it delivers) - it's only a matter of time before I bag one :{
From sevenoaks sounds, they price match richer sounds which was also down to 629

Just ordered mine through Peter Tyson, got it for 639 after chatting with sales rep :)

You forgot to mention they have a proper audio heritage, and are not an Apple wannabe like Sonos.
(Although in audio circles, Sonos might be described as a Bang&Olufsen wannabe)

They also don't have any of the multi room functionality of a Sonos or app based control either.

Reviews seem to agree they sound great but a few mention they're a bit clunky and you need to physically turn volume up and down on the device.

Rubbish you turn the volume control up on your phone. As for sonos multi room I packed my sonos 5 up and sold it.Big black Ugly plastic thing that's too boomy.Bought this and prefer it.Simple loud but controlled on top end and treble.Sonos are like bose overpriced paying for a badge plus monitor audio are experts in this field no gimmicks just quality.
Can you run a chrome cast off the speakers USB socket? That would certainly make it more appealing to me than having to have a separate power input for the chrome cast.
nice find, bought one. cheers.
Is this anything more than just a bluetooth speaker and an active speaker with 3.5mm aux in?
That's a lot of money for a single ugly speaker. Even one made by MA.
I'm failing to understand the heat here. I guess in comparison to products made by Sonos this must appear as a bargain to a lot of potential Sonos buyers. And I guess it is exactly that.
Great design , very compact, superb sound . As others have said it's not a multi room speaker but as a standalone neat Bluetooth/Airplay unit it is superb. I love mine.

Would this be much of an upgrade (sound wise) over an onkyo 606?

Sound will be different, but better, depends on your tastes, and speakers.

I got a pair of the 3010's from Martin Dawes for £118 in white a while back and I have been very pleased with them.
Still a stupid premium for the colour on these though. Bumps the price to £229 on these.
I'm actually after the 3010s (due to size) in gloss white, £118 was a great price! I've never seen them lower than £166

I jumped at it tbh for the same reason. Was on here, back last January'ish.

Currently have them attached to a Yamaha RX-V579 amp.

Good amp but no dolby atmos or dts:x :(
How many discs are encoded Atmos?
Reading user reviews of the Denon 2200w etc many people seem to be equally impressed with the benefits of Atmos speakers using virtually created soundfields as they do with properly encoded Atmos material.

I have a 1040 and I have to say I am more than happy with it. I think some of the newer models have less ports though for some reason but sound and feature wise it's great.

Believe Onkyo are highly regarded by some but as they are an 'Unknown' brand probably best to stick with names like Sony Bush or Alba....

Blind test is the only way. A friend of mine just got a Raspberry Pi Zero £4 and a Phat DAC for £12 with £1.50 phono upgrade, so just over £20 and he can't tell the difference between his £500 Arcam DAC and the £12 Phat DAC.
Fishmaster, could you explain this a bit more; "with £1.50 phono upgrade", thanks.
Sure go to this site and follow these links >https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/phat-dachttps://shop.pimoroni.com/products/dual-phono-connector-for-phat-dac\
The £1.50 Phono upgrade is just phono connectors so you can easily connect to an amp without using the 3.5mm jack on the Phat DAC.
If I have just the speaker wires, do I get one of those banana connection tor to connect into this phono input? Thanks..
It's irrelevant it has nothing to do with the DAC, your speakers connect in to your amp, so you connect the speaker wires to your stereo amp which you'll need if you don't have one
Hi fishmaster. I am refering to this;https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/dual-phono-connector-for-phat-dac\
How do I connect the speaker wires to that input.
Thanks...
You don't! I explained it in my last post.
Phat DAC > Stereo Amplifier > Speakers

Wow... I am super noob in this...

So just to be clear. That Phat Dac sits on a Pi where it gets it's input and music. Then the Phat connects to an AMP (like the LECY) and my normal speakers with wires connect to that AMP.

Was the last comment from Rusty Spoon justify why it's better with the Phat on an AMP?

Thanks...
I think Fishmaster is talking about me with the comments.

I have owned/built lots of HiFi, DAC's etc and I have to put my hand up and say the pHAT Dac is incredible regardless of the price, I did an A/B test against my Arcam IRDAC and the difference is VERY little, I would say this is 95% as good if not more. I have the pHAT Dac on a Pi Zero in my bedroom on my Onkyo setup and it's mindblowingly good.

Tested with a Naim XS2 Amplifier, B&W CM Series speakers, FLAC, Streaming and MP3 files.

The Phat DAC converts I2S data from the Pi to 2v Analogue Line Level, it will need an amplifier connected to the Phat DAC and then your speakers connect to the amplifier.

Can I use this as a foot stool for my Onkyo 607 AV Amp?

Knowing Onkyo's track record you would be much better using the receiver itself as a foot stool...would keep your feet nice and toasty.

The 607 was notorious for its HDMI board problem, have you had yours fixed or been lucky?

Funnily enough. Mine failed after 5 years. Intermittent loss first for a few months then total.
Richer sounds in brum were a waste of space. Spoke to the head office customer services. They collected it, replaced the faulty board and sent it back all FOC despite it being 5 years and 10 months old.
Can't argue with that!

Or just buy a Chromecast audio;)
But that only plays whatever tab you have open in a browser, not local files unless faffing around with compatible players. Would be interested to know what the diff is audio quality wise, I shouldn't imagine a great deal when using optical out.

Plex can do it natively and takes less than 5 minutes to set up. If you are using the optical output sound quality will be identical since it bypasses the DAC.

Not a great deal of faffing about. CCA works great as part of a Squeezebox ecosystem. All you need is a plugin for the server.
You can use apps like localcast to play from any UPNP/DLNA server. Plus you can use Spotify and the likes for streaming.
SQ-wise, I can't tell the difference comparing to Sqeezebox receiver hooked up to CA DacMagic over optical. It's not outstanding, but certainly decent enough. And amazing value for money. I'm yet to try my 96/24 Pink Floyd records. That might be more revealing.
I doubt this NAD is audiophile-grade either. Plus proprietary networking standard is not something I'd like to be buying into. Not sure how much additional receivers cost. But if they are USB, only that's fairly limiting.
Another downside is USB audio. This is bound to have some limitations compared to toslink.
Voted hot, as it certainly is a good product for those who are unwilling to tinker with things like Squeezebox.

It seems to be back to £399. Expired I guess
NAD is a premium brand these days, the amp is well worth it. However personally my next purchase will be the Yamaha A-S801 which is supposed to be exceptional for its price point.
I remember when the 3020 was budget hifi heaven. NAD have become so expensive now.
This is normal price, used to be £399 bundled with 'free' speakers.

very tempted, would replace my yamaha nsp40 set so im sure i would notice a difference! was tempted to go with floorstands at the front though, hmmmmm
Received and set up mine seem to have a good range of sound, still playing around with it though in terms of the sub, centre speaker seems be most noticeable improvement for me.
Mine are with the courier. Hopefully be here Monday.
Anyone taken delivery of them yet?

Seem to be spoilt for choice in this price bracket at the moment. The Onkyo 646, Yamaha 679 and Sony 1060 have already been reduced to £350. Are they all missing a vital feature or is the AV receiver market stagnant?

I have this unit afaik it's missing nothing. Not for me anyway atmos, dts:X loads of inputs great reviews and all hdmi are hdcp 2.2 pretty future proof
oops sorry now gone up to £429 at the above (was £375 )
Same price at many other places including Richer sounds if you prefer to deal with them for this great amp. A bit cheaper here but don't know anything about them http://www.hificonfidential.co.uk/denon-avr-x2200w-7-2-channel-full-4k-ultra-hd-a-v-receiver.html?language=en¤cy=GBP&gclid=CjwKEAiA7_OzBRDA8OfT3orp51oSJACVqslIm95XsuL9vEZng2LJvl4jPPtHscyIHTv6SgRlkpHtSRoCheXw_wcB Thanks for the post

Incorrect image in the amazon linked product.

Or are they a different version?

I think they're the Imagine B not the mini.

That's via the same vendor - Sevenoaks.

However, you can only collect in store now via OP's link so the Amazon link will actually let you buy if you don't live near them.

I noticed that, but I bought them from their website and there was a free delivery option.
