So what is the next song on your all time top 10 selection?
Move any mountain - 96 remix.
Was that not your 4th choice too?
No, that was Move any mountain - Dakota mix
So what was your 7th choice then?
That was Move any mountain - slimboy dub musical. It followed Move any mountain - ambient mix.

Some great songs but ...
#6
Jesus, I had forgotten that they had actually done some good songs.

#Boss Drum, Here we go again...

Yes, top of the hit parade on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1990s.

#These are Goode, These are Goode...

Interesting fact (maybe) regarding their last album for the One Little Indian label...

It is said that the album, "Hempton Manor", was written in just seven days to see out their recording contract with label founder, Derek Birket, as he wanted the group to record more commercial output again.

See if you can work out the hidden message from the first letter of the title of each track on the album...

1. "Freya"
2. "Urpflanze"
3. "Cannabeo"
4. "Khat"
5. "Bememe"
6. "Indica"
7. "Rausch"
8. "Kava"
9. "El-Fin"
10. "The Monoriff"

Genius! :)

I'll pay £10 to anyone who can prove they have listened to all 22 discs consecutively.
#10
I thought they were a good band until they got that bloke prancing around doing the pathetic rapping. But then that's the period that they had most of their hits so it's just as well i'm not in A&R I suppose.

In Gorbachev We Trust (1989) was a great album, in particular Jesus Loves America was a good track.

I'll gladly listen to all the tracks back-to-back for you :)

Yeah the early stuff was top notch (star-trek sliding doors sounds) ..later it nose-dived for the purists, ah well.. heady days (sighs)

"That bloke" (Richard West or "Mr C" as he was at the time) turned the band around after Will (Sinnott)'s untimely death & the loss of the writing partnership during the era you described with the then front (read: only)-man Colin Angus (when co-founding brothers Derek & Kevin McKenzie, and remaining member Peter Stephenson left)

To be fair, through the many line-up changes, musical genre adjustments, and ultimate demise of the band, the 1990s was their most successful (commercially), and you have to admire what they did to distance themselves from the "Madchester" scene of the same period & re-introduce the youth club night movement.

I haven't listened to "In Gorbachev We Trust" for such a long time; may have to dig it out now :)

Did you ever listen to their final album, "UV"? They changed direction yet again to a Drum'n'Bass-influenced output. Not really a fitting send-off, but worth a spin if you like that kind of thing.

Anyone got any Salmon?

Dont forget the great Jerry Sadowitz appeared in Ebeneezer Goode video - heat added just for this!
#16
What a carry on.
#17
Loved their late 80's acid-house period. Mr C killed it for me.

To be honest I don't know that much about them other then I couldn't stand the tacky 90's white boy rap stuff.

Ta, just ordered!

Nice set, good price. Ordered. H&R. Thanks!

Now lets just hope Play don't do their usual trick of sending a box set in a jiffy bag and it arrive to me dented and bashed.....
#21
Anyone got any underlay?
#22
£52.99 now.

I was a teenager when 'Progeny' came out, I excitedly bought it, and it turned out to be about 20 different mixes of the same song (Move any mountain) - I still have nightmares now!
