£169 is an Amazon MARKETPLACE seller, not Amazon itself.

If I was after a cheap as possible Bluray player, then I'd take this over the Bush model from Argos any day of the week.

Not according to this http://www.hdtvlounge.net/blu-ray/sharp-bd-hp20h/ has a quick start feature

Review here http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/reviews/review.phtml/3276/4300/sharp-aquos-bd-hp20h-blu-ray-player.phtml

although apparently doesn't upscale DVD very well

an 8/10 review at £400 is pretty darn good!

Unfortunately I have way too many unopened HDDVDs to plough through before I even think of getting a bluray player

Late Crimbo pressent for yourself or someone else? If its for you not really a pressent, or much to do with Crimbo by now. If its for someone else, leaving it a bit late although maybe spending this much will make up for it.

Good price but be aware that it does not do DTS HD.

The replacement version of ths player is widely available on eBay, going for only a little bit more.

They were bundled with Sharp Aquos TVs and people seem to be offloading the player....

Maybe he's Russian Orthadox, they celebrate Christmas today because they stick to the Julian calandar for their celebrations.

It was for my mum, she wanted a DVD player for christmas, managed to persuade her to wait until after christmas in the hope blu ray players would drop in price a bit, didn't fancy the Bush one at Argos, although for all I know it may be good too. £100 was the max budget, and this future proofs things for her a little bit compared to a standard DVD player as she isn't into technology that much.

They are both profile 1.0, which means they won't support certain extras, there is some good info here that may help.

http://hometheater.about.com/od/dvdbasics/a/bluhddvdinfo_2.htm

Some reviews of Samsung BD-P1400 here;

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/blu-ray-hd-dvd-players/samsung-bd-p1400-264942/review

http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-cinema/review/2008/01/24/Samsung-BD-P1400-Blu-ray-Player/p1

http://www.hdtvorg.co.uk/reviews/dvd/samsung_bd-p1400.htm

Personally I think the Sharp is better value as they both in general get good reviews and are the same profile, and so imho can't see point in spending extra.

Hope this helps:)

PS; hope you manage to keep hold of your man, what an hypocrite Mr Levy is after the fuss he kicked up over Keane & Berbatov

Fantastic, thanks very much for that mate I'll go with the Sharp!

p.s. Yeah, I know very hyprocitical!! I think he'll stay until the end of the seaason, but at the same time if he doesn't want to play for us then he should go, which will leave me the job of changing all my usernames!! lol

If you only take into account the bluray player of the PS3, it's still one of the best around.
#38
Probably a silly question but does this player come with a HDMI cable in the box?
