Looks hot to me.

This may explain the low cost:

The BD-HP20H is a Profile 1.0 player, which means it won’t support advanced BD-Java features found on forthcoming Profile 1.1 (or ‘Bonus View’) Blu-ray discs, such as BonusView, the latest version of the Blu-ray format.

Taken from here.

Any one got one of these?

I ordered one based on the last offer on here ... wired it up to a 42" plasma at the weekend and very happy with the quality of the picture ... for £99 or even £199 you won't find anything that comes close to matching it
#17
i notice someone pointed out this is only a profile 1.0 player, but i was wondering if it is user upgradable (new firmware or whatever) to support the newer profiles?

i know some players are and some aren't upgradable, so it'd be handy to know, if anyone has that info to hand :)
#18
can this play AVCHD discs?

or would that only be certain branded players.
#19
Got this a few weeks ago cheaper
But still a hot deal for a pretty decent bluray player for under £100

edit: Don't forget quidco!

Comedy genius :whistling:

Just checked your post history and you really are full of ****! You seem to take every opportunity to ****-off Blu-Ray while extolling the virtues of HD-DVD and also talke as many opportunities to call people ****** and chavs; not to mention talking about your 50 inch TV in the bedroom!

Hhmmm..trying to compensate for something actually missing in real-life?

Thats the funniest thing ive read this week.

Heat added tho as this is a good deal for entrering the BluRay scene, profile 1.1 stuff is HARDLY used and irrelellevent really. It wont stop you playing BD movies and content, just the popup/online stuff but then who uses that really?? Its a PLAYER - does what it says. Not bad quality, better than the Bush i would say.

Also you can get BluRay's cheap at HMV and such.

By "dying" this guy means "5 years". Which is actually about as long as i would give the whole planet given the current climate.

By then, SuperHD or such will arrive and the whole thing will move again. Who cares??? You need a PLAYER for 5 years, get this one.

Are you having a laugh, wont find anything that comes close to matching this for £199? What about a Sony BDP-S350 for £170, a Samsung Bd-p1500 for £160 or a Panasonic 35 for £190? All of these are profile 2 players.
The trouble with forums like this is some people may believe what people like you write.

Heat added.

I've been weeing a little reading the comments on this so far :) It's a cheap Blu-Ray player after all is said, and definitely worth it. Personally I'm going to get a new PC soon with a Blu-Ray drive.

And Betamax? Surely HD-DVD was the Betamax of this war, so Blu-Ray is basically VHS! \o/

i have been wondering why they're so bulky , why is this? DVD players are slimline now, why not Bluray players?

Look at the original PS2 and how slim that became. Must just be the size of the components required.

Technically-speaking, its because of all of the make-it-look-nice-thingies and stuff

Hope that helps

bought one last week and am very pleased with it. The player is slimline. It only takes about 15 secs to load a dvd from standyby mode, most take about 2 minutes! Would highly recomment.

£99 players should see the format gain pace.

For the trolls and the fans:
The problem with blu-ray is the licensing fees are too high, so its difficult to see when media and players are going to hit a sweet spot. It is still perceived as an early adopter or videophile format due to its very low take up. Sony wanted 50% of the video market by end of 2008 and they only got 4% .
Sony have come up with some god formats but sadly badly (due to arrogance?) marketed and overpriced for the masses, Mini-disc, UMD, now Blu-ray.
Comparisons to tape formats are a joke, optical media was far far more convenient , Blu-ray and HD-DVD offered no more convenience over DVD.
