Just popped into my local Currys store to find a Sharp Blu Ray player Sharp BDHP-21 player for £49.97 which seems like a brilliant bargain for a good company, only downside i could find was it didn't have an ethernet port (for update) however does have a USB which you can use to update and it also upscales! I was watchin Bear Grills upscaled and the picture and sound SUPERB!

Product Code: 938409

Not too sure if many Currys have them i guess you could ring up and they should tell you, ENJOY!

hey guys yes it does play BluRay at 1080P

97p - which means end of range clearance - will be difficult to find although good price if you can get one!

Hello madspike,

Due to the item having 97p in the end it's as RAhmed1234 pointed out a clearance item thus stock being limited.

With that said could you possibly provide the SKU, a 6 digit (excluding the 0s at the start) located next to the item description on the receipt.

By disclosing that number other members can call up their local store to easily check whether the item is in stock there or in their next nearest store.

Cheers,
Scar

This is the model they offered free a few yrs back with certain TV's at Currys & PC World. The Firmware updating is pretty straight forward using a USB stick.

difficult, if not impossible.

I have one (came with a package deal) Not the best of players (quite slow loading and needs lots of USB firmware updates to keep up with the latest titles)

However I can confirm it does do 1080p.

Ive got one of these (£57 from Makro last year IIRC) and its pretty good once you update the firmware. Good picture and sound but a few niggles.

Anyone know how to get films to resume??
Drives me mad when you stop a film and press play 30 seconds later only to have the disk start the lengthy loading sequence from scratch!

i got sony blu ray, to turn resume on and off you have to keep youre finger pressed on the "STOP" button until it signals on ure player that the resume has turned on. Thats how it works on my one anyway

Just to dispel a few myths....

This player DOES support 1080P
Never had any problems with support for Blu Rays with updated firmware
This Player is only Profile 1.1 so doesn't support BD Live, and cannot as it doesn't have an ethernet port.
This Players USB is for updates/storage only, player doesn't support DIVX
DVD is locked to region 2, no known hack exists.
Blu Ray is locked to Region B
Bitstreams audio over HDMI nicely.

Other than that its a very well built, no frills Blu Ray Player (albeit a little slow with java heavy titles), picture quality is decent, certainly worth £50 if you just want a well built Blu Ray player without additional features.

Just get a Ps3, it will always update, will be compatible with 3D Movies and you can use it as a Media Center as well as a Games machine.

Sounds great! Now, where can we get one for £50?

And costs 5 times as much as this, and not everyone wants a Games Machine, when it comes time that my parents will be wanting a Blu Ray Player, I cannot see them wanting to buy a PS3, as well as other elderlies.

Spend an extra £8 and go for a Foehn and Hirsch player from ebuyer

just called currys and they have said that the only place they have them in stock is in Charlton. If that helps anyone. Ive already got a Blu ray player, just after a cheap one for the bedroom.
