Now that Sony and Sharp have formed an alliance it also means that it should bring up the second-hand price of this unit when it comes time to sell.

This is a good deal, voted hot.

I haven't followed the saga for over a year once my folks got a satisfactory 42" but the 46" XD1E were especially prone to BANDING which made the set very undesirable at the time.

My folks had the 42" version in Dec 2006 and it had 3" bands down both sides - their replacement 42" fortunately came without banding and is tremendously good fed from their V+ box!

The 46" XD1E initially models had all sorts of banding problems - you can tell how much controversy/worry there was with early XD1E models from the thread over on AVForums with nearly 8000 postings!

seen this tv and the picture quality looked dreadful tho could have been a bad source or badly setup (tho tv's next to it were showing the same content and they were alot better)...good example demonstrating theat 1080p isnt everything - its the quality of components that counts.

I am considering this............... missed out on the deal with the free blu ray player at Empire Direct a while back.................................... for 1200 for the newest 46 inch Sharp

Bought one of these on Boxing Day. Forget the comments from people who have not got one at home with a decent HD source input - this is a terrrific set. I did all my homework and plumped for this and am not disappointed. I love it more each day. Particularly as I only paid £700 for it in Bennetts sale!!!
