Why does everyone want 3D? It's a gimmick. It'll come and go. If you think everyone is going to watch everything in 3D in 10 years then you're crazy. 4K is the future.

3D is just one big money machine.

Great deal, whole £100 cheaper than john lewis and richer sounds. Do you know what the warranty would be like?

I'd still pay the extra £100 and buy it from John Lewis with their free 5 year warranty and excellent after sales support.

3D only starts to look good on large screens. This 60 inch may look ok if it was 3D. I am lucky enough to have a 3D HD projector and on a 130 inch projected screen 3d is top bannana.

Cracking deal. Shame I don't have the space for it.

Don't you need Sky to get a 3D signal?

Very bad backlight leakage, blacks are blue. And still motion blur. As still LCD.

You can buy it for £999 direct from sharp (using Sharp affinity) with a 5 year warranty.

I can't find anything for a 5 year from one one else (without paying more?)

It's under a grand from costco (I noticed as the 70" of the same set is twice as much - the same disparity when I bout my 46" Aquos years as opposed to the 52" of the same set).

Picture was frankly awful as expected with an SD signal, the 70" had HD from a BR player and was pretty good tbh, even in the bright cost co. Sharp were/are global no1 LCD tv manufacturer (hence why I bought mine even though I managed a panny dealership) and I would have no qualms buying one now, that said if I dropped that amount of cash on a tv I'd want the reassurance that it was covered for 5yrs.

3D is dead, long live 3D. 4K will be the new buzz tech and on bigger screens looks lovely - for me though it won't take off till Sky inevitably broadcast it first. Based on history expect 3D in some form to crop up around 2030 again. It's not the glasses that killed it it's that the tech still isn't upto it for everyday programming, not the least that it seems to leave many people borderline nauseous.

My Pioneer LCD TV which I think outdoes even the very best sets out there at the moment happens to use a Sharp panel.

Indeed.
I was watching a technology program on the BBC last year and they pretty much claimed that 3D was already dead and that once the current set of 3D TVs are released, TV companies aren't going to invest huge sums of money into developing 3d as it will have passed (as a fad). On these forums though, many people are still obsessed with 3d, so it may yet take off. Only time will tell though.

I'm wondering what percentage of people who own 3d tvs actually use the 3d facility.

Personally, I would much rather have a £1k TV which offers great 2d, rather than a £1k tv which offers poor 2d and 3d.

I agree.I've got a great 3D TV (Panasonic) but I REALY don't care if it wasn't 3D.3D is the best way you could explain the word gimmick to someone.no one should ever avoid buying a great tv because the lack of 3D.

Heat added, this is a hot deal for a big telly (even if it is a Sharp).
I take it this one doesn't have that ridiculous 'quad pixel' marketing guff?

Personally I find 3D annoying to watch far too often.
It's a periodic interesting effect at times (Prometheus has some very vivid 3D in it, for example) but I know approx 2hrs of it is about my limit before the headaches start & I just can't watch anymore.
Naturally Hollywood being Hollywood will do it to death as an effect on rubbish & we'll all get sick of it intruding so pointlessly, as usual.
The simple fact is you just don't need 3D for good story telling.

Totally agree that I'd far rather put all the money I spend on a TV into it being a great 2D screen than dilute that by adding 3D which is likely to be seldom used......unless you go a bundle on adding the silly artificial 3D TV effect on your soaps & News
(this is what I chose to do when buying my last TV, a Panny plasma).
Trouble is it seems we're being robbed of the choice with the latest crop, you get it with the latest set whether you want it or not.

I bought the tv last week from them. It was http://www.sharp.co.uk/page/largescreen

I think. But now the page has vanished. I've done the form and now have to post copy of my receipt.

Started looking into the whole 4K thing. Following link shows why it's not necessary for most of us who live with 40" to 60" screens. Makes a good point about contrast ratio over resolution too.

Hi

If your going to the store to look at this - have a look at the 60 inch Samsung at the same price - again it has no 3D but the picture is head and shoulders above this one.................but its a Plasma so not directly comparable - check out the blacks and the hd - way better.

He's got a 130 inch screen and a projector, he doesn't have to know how to spell banana. oO

Seriously though, my son's 42 inch tv looks too big for his not small bedroom, do the people buying 60 inch screens have 25 foot long rooms and they view from the other end? Otherwise you wouldn't be able to view the whole screen in the one go, like sitting near the front at the cinema!
