City banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) arrived at Shawshank Prison in 1947. Convicted of two brutal murders, he received a double life sentence and discovers that when they send you to Shawshank State Prison for life, that is exactly what they take.

Within the confines of Shawshank, Andy forms an unlikely friendship with the prison "fixer" Red (Morgan Freeman). He also becomes popular with the Warden and the prison's guards, as Andy is able to use his banking experience to help the corrupt officials amass personal fortunes.

With an extraordinary twist in the tale, Andy finds that survival comes down to a simple choice: get busy living or get busy dying...

Great adaptation of the Stephen King book, in some instances it is almost better than the book. One of only a handful of book to film conversions that actualy work. A must have to any film buff, thanks.

Awful melodrama. Man digs escape tunnel with toffee hammer and miraculously retains all his teeth in the shower. King should keep to horror stories where fantasy is acceptable and expected.

He doesnt dig a tunnel , he scrapes a hole through 1 wall with a rock hammer and breaks a sewer pipe with a rock - dont make it sound rediculous because you dont like the film.
price wise Ive seen this film for £2.99 (not 3 disc though 3 discs would be of no interest to me personally)

To anyone believing this guff, you should know that this particular film regularly tops movie polls even now.
It is an awe-inspiring film of which to ridicule shows a lack of intelligence.

My favourite film, also top film at IMDB.

I hate people who give away the story/ending, If I wanted to know how a film turns out I'd pay attention to their trailers....so kindly stfu. >_>

Whilst I agree this post is a load of crap, he does have a point. I always thought the "hole" he dug, which was actually more tunnel like was a bit far fetched. However it doesn't take anything away from the film.

...then again think about it...spent 6 years ( 365 nights a yr x6 give or take re leap yrs ) every night scraping / digging away a man sized hole to crawl through. in the slammer. determined willpower. far more weirder feats occur in real life...i mean look at what David Blaine ( nutter extraordinaire ) achieves lol x !
