Don't have a telly, so never seen this. Am big fan of Sherlock Holmes stuff. Is this series faithful to original stories? And is it good?

These are very faithful to the original stories (all of which I have read many times) and Jeremy Brett is the quintessential Sherlock Holmes (though Basil Rathbone comes a close second, except they didn't do any of the stories properly).

Cheers, Woodsikov. Very impressed with the radio series with Michael Williams and Clive Merrison. I trust you've heard it? :)

I have both this and the complete radio series. It is very interesting to note the differences and certainly the TV series is a lot darker than the radio. Both of which I can confirm are excellent.

IMHO this is essential Sherlock Holmes viewing. Heat + Rep most definitely added.

Cheers WBRacing. What you mean: "darker"? :)

Yeah - a bargain - I paid about £50 for this set a year and a half ago.

By that I mean I find they have more of a moody edge rather than being relatively light hearted which I find the radio series (for the most part) is. It's a nice balance and to my mind Jeremy Brett is the definitve Holmes. He had bi-polar disorder (same as Stephen Fry) which I think gave him the slight "donkey on the edge" feel. The quintessential flawed hero.

Definitely worth borrowing a telly for. ;-)
