Fantastic price. I've been wanting to get this for my dad for Father's day for a couple of years now, but couldn't justify the huge price. This is going straight into the basket.
Thanks, heat added.

Beware! This may not be what you expect!
The films in this set are the versions available in the public domain and to be frank they are cheap and nasty.
If you really want the best versions get the complete 14 film set produced by 'optimum' - they are beautifully restored and probably the best versions you will find.
Buy cheap - buy twice!

This is the one to go for:

Disagree - this set's RRP is £49 odd quid. The only thing 'cheap' about it is the price Choicesuk are selling it for!!

The RRP means very little...it's just what the company who produced the boxset reckons it's worth. It's a marketing tool so it looks like you're getting a big discount.

Someone who obviously knows what they're talking about has given good advice regarding the picture quality of this cheap boxset versus remastered versions - it shouldn't be dismissed so easily. :)

Why not just go to amazon £17.49 for all 14 films £12 cheaper then hmv.

You miss the point - the post was for THIS particular boxset which is at a GREAT price compared to anywhere else. If we're all going to start comparisons between OTHER sets that aren't even the subject of the post, it's rather defeating the object! For almost every post made we COULD all chirp in '...but there's a better/more expensive/better quality item elsewhere. Not much point posting a bargain then, huh?

Just found the complete Rathbone boxset on Amazon at £17.98. 7 discs, 14 films, all remastered. Thanks to redmoorphil for alerting me to this set.

Okay, Macattak got there as I was posting. Sorry.

It's only a bargain if it's worth the money, surely? And people DO chirp in with comments like that on other deals, all the time! One man's meat is another man's poison...but £17.49 for 14 films in remastered quality versus £5.99 for 4 films in (apparently) poor quality...works out cheaper per film to get the big set!

I don't disagree at all, but it's still a bargain in it's own right and for what it is. Maybe someone only needs this set (there are 2 other similar ones that make a set), for them it's a steal when they may have paid £34.95+ somewhere else.

Checking through previous posts shows that Centurion found the Amazon boxset 3 weeks ago. Guess I should be more vigilant.

Yes I picked up the restored Optimum set from Amazon for £17.98 at the start of the month.

They are really well presented. A couple of the half dozen I have watched so far have a REALLY informative commentary by Sherlockian expert & film guru.

Really pleased I found that set :)
