Can these be used for MTB

Its a decent price but not brilliant. £79 is a little misleading, been £57.49 at Chain reaction for a while.
Great pedal though.

There is nothing stopping you putting them on a MTB, however, typically, SPD pedals are used on MTB (not SPD-SL)

Spd sl shoes would be a pain to walk through a muddy forest in... Straight spd shoes usually have great grip and are more flexible.

These are nice pedals but not much lighter than the cheapest spd sls from shimano. Might be better in other ways?

The metal plate makes them more long lasting than the cheaper ones (plastic) but yes your right not a huge saving for 80 grams.
I wouldn't use them on a mtb

The new PD-550s (improved version of the 540s most people have) have a metal plate and are cheaper than these.

Not voting. Best price for the pedals, but I don't see much improvement over the 550s.

Of all the 105 groupset I really don't think the pedals are worth the cost. Perhaps if you had ultegra groupset and were looking for a good pedal and didn't want to splash out on ultegra pedals then these would be great. However, I think the 550s would be a better shout
