CentreParcs Europe have just put up most of their 2015 dates. Due to differences in French and UK school holidays you can get out-of-term ( depending on county... Hampshire is good ) bargains if you like CenterParcs and you're prepared to go to France. The pick of the bunch seems to be a short week ( 6 days ) at CenterParcs Lac D'Ailette week of 7th-13th April in a Comfort 4 person villa for £416. They're calling it a short week I assume because of Easter Monday when they don't seem to be taking arrivals. If you want 7 days you can go on Friday 3rd instead for a little extra. Equivalent week at Sherwood is £1448 ( 7 days ).

It's usually good value for February half term as well, as they don't seem to half term abroad.

Very good price, wish Hotukdeals was around when my children were young enough to want to go on hols with me.

Wondered if anyone could recommend any of the sites for a family with 3 children aged 6,8 and 10? We'd prefer not to take our car. Would any site be easier than the others? Thanks for any help.

Good idea, and not too far from channel crossing :)

All the sites offer pretty much identical facilities ans all are family friendly. If you go to the CenterParcs site and select individual villages you can get directions by public transport. You may find the tunnel is cheaper since you pay per vehicle and not per person.

I'm guessing it's a bit different in Europe, aren't they run by different companies, but just use the same name (or something like that)?

we prefer the french ones. not been to the new one in the west but the haut de bruyere one is easily the best a bit tired perhaps and get your food from a supermarche but overall much better than the english ones.

They have different owners but the same parent company. The layout and facilities are similar to those in the UK parks. If you've been to both you'll notice that a lot of the fittings around the parks seem to be the same.

Erperheide is about three hours from the tunnel, has a Lidl just down the road, a petting zoo, a huge indoor play area and cheap Belgian beer. De Vossemeren is a bit further away and has an indoor pirate ship play area instead.

For families with children, the European Center Parcs with their indoor play facilities and petting zoos are much better than the UK ones. We paid £850 for a week in August in Belgium which is £1928 at Elveden for same accommodation and dates. Even spending £250 on fuel and crossing the Channel, we still save more than £800.

We did Holland a few months ago in Easter hols. With travelling and tunnel worked out about the same, but was soooo much more enjoyable and relaxing. Wasn't packed out like in the UK, and no cars flying around like in the UK. Would highly recommend.

We were looking at this one - is the petting zoo, indoor play area all included in the price, or are they extras?

All included. Erperheide Baluba has big slides, a foam guns area, soft play area, trampolines, lego, bouncy castle, video games and stage. All free with a café where parents can buy drinks. The petting zoo is free too but take your own handwash as the continentals are much more relaxed. Very good for primary school age children. You don't even need to stock up on supplies any longer because there is a now a Lidl down the road. The main area still has a roof too, unlike Elveden. When planning meals, just remember there is no oven!

Might be missing something here but ... putting the same dates and location as in the OP and I am getting a price of 599 Euros = £480

Still a bargain mind. Erpehheide Baluba sounds very tempting but ... how do you self-cater without an oven ?

There's a hob and microwave. We take a George Foreman too. There are loads of things you can cook - we generally do curries, pasta, rice in the microwave, barbecues outside using Poundland disposable barbecues, etc.

Often it is cheapest to look as a resident and in the language of the country you're going to. Are you getting the First Minute Deals discount shown at the bottom for booking way in advance?

We did this this year and it was excellent. Try using your Tesco points for Eurotunnel too!

I'm assuming there are no issues if you book in the language of the country you are going to- as it does appear to be cheaper?

We've done it about ten times. Never had an issue. If you register first in English and then book in Dutch or French, you'll receive your confirmation in English.

I've just retried my booking as a French customer and it makes no difference. Still 599 euros. I did get a whiff of garlic though.

They are freebies. So, generally, if you book in six months in advance you get four toppings. One topping is often compulsory and is choosing where you villa is. The other toppings can be exchanged for bike hire or other activities. See here.

When you book - do you get charged on your credit card straight away? I have just booked and gave my credit card details, and it tells me an amount that needs to be paid later in July - but gives no option to pay it. Does it automatically take the money nearer the time?

There should be a payment status and schedule in your booking confirmation. In my experience, the money is taken automatically.

Yes. We spoke to them direct and it debits automatically on a certain day. As we are going over easter, the final payment is being collected automatically in Jan x

Thank you - booked Erperheide for 8 nights in the school holidays from the 30th march in a VIP villa for 679 euros.....

Booked using the Belgian site- think it's shocking they try and rip you off on the British site by not offering the 20% family discount - due to clash with uk school holidays- and they charge an additional tourist tax on the English site.....

Route from Center Parcs to Lidl in Peer

Lidl is about five minutes drive away. Supermarket on site is very expensive and limited in what it stocks.

Don't buy any frozen stuff from Lidl before you arrive on your first day as can be quite a queue to get in and all your ice cream will melt!
