Excellent deal, considering I sold my used Civ IV and Warlords expansion for about £15 just the other week!

Yeah it seems a no brainer really - from any of the stores I mentioned on the first post.

I went for amazon because they seem to think they can delivery it tomorrow, whereas I've heard reports that thehut especially, and tesco's were struggling to get stock.

Paid £15 at Zavvi for this a few months ago, and thought that was a spectacular deal, but this is phenomenal.

The amount of time it would take you to play this to exhaustion makes this a must have. Who needs the sun anyway? :-D

Yeah, i've never played a civ game, though I like the genre. Been forced to watch others though!

hi,
i wonder if any avid CIV players could help?
i have never played any of the series but i love strategy games and games like C&C, CZ and FM etc. will this be "the game for me"?
also, would going straight into IV pose any issues or mean i have missed out on something? should i start at the beggining of the series and work my way through them?
thanks for any advice.

Thanks man,

Ordered and cancelled my Tesco direct and The Hut orders.

I jumped straight in to IV Warlords and I picked it up pretty fast (never played any RTS games before).

One tip - breed settlers fast and expand your borders, don't agree any open borders deals or you'll have China all over your **** :-D ... Oh and research gunpowder quick - Napoleon hates artillery ;)

Work the population till they drop - takes ages before they all start dieing from pollution or refusing to work cos there's no money left - by then you'll have all the Military stuff squared away - then you can just start blasting your neighbours you made the peace deal with until you had the ICBMs etc - gr8 family fun.

Well, I wouldn't count on this, it says:
'Usually dispatched within 2 to 5 weeks. Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk. '

while Tesco says 'Stock expected 6th July'

So hit and miss whether we'll get anything from anyone :P

When posted, it was dispatched within 24hrs... and mine was dispatched around half 5 this evening.

Good point though, I guess. I was gonna moan about who expired it, but you have a valid reason! :)

Mine from Amazon says preparing for dispatch and order cannot be cancelled, so I am hopeful. Maybe they had a number of them and then sold out, I am sure we will find out in a couple of days

Your strategy background will likely prepare you for the thinking required to play Civ well, but beware that civilization is turn-based rather than real time. This means that all that practice you have at time management, and moving people at breakneck speed will be of limited value.

A good Civ strategy involves a large amount of planning ahead, and sometimes taking your time over a turn can let you weigh the odds a little more carefully.

Going straight to Civ 4 is not only acceptable, but recommended. If you want to play an earlier game, then Civ 2 would be the one to try out.

One last word, you really can get a decent idea of what Playing Civ is all about by grabbing the Demo - it won't cost you anything, and 100 turns (which is the demo limit) gets you quite well started

I've been playing the last expansion in this for months.

Before I had an idea of what I was doing, I had some very amsuing moments.

I spent a lot of time creating a fleet of galleons for example, only for the an Egytpian Aircraft Carrier to appear and put me in my place.

I love it!

Can't win, but love it.:w00t:

No its fine, generally the difference between series is: graphics, rules, new units, techs and other new features.

Basically there isnt a story line either in Civ which is another reason for not playing the whole series

As the series gets newer they have made Civ easier to pick up, 4 is miles better than 3. Civ 3 has too much micromanagement towards the middle and end of the game, a army of 20 units is 10 units in Civ 4 for example.

I ordered mine from Tesco about 10days ago, and says stock due today so hopefully not much longer!
It's also at WHSmiths for £7.99 which is just a pound more and will be with you sooner than Tescos I would've thought.
Am having to play Civ3 via Metaboli until my Civ4 arrives to keep me going
#20
I bought the Tesco one (well, ordered, rather) only for the 2nd expansion as I have the game and warlords already! Yes, it's THAT good! :D
#21
At the time of writing this is back down to £6.98 but 2 to 5 weeks away :-(
#22
It's back in stock again available for immediate delivery (unlike 2 to 5 weeks away like the last time I posted).

Since I don't have Amazon Prime I decided to order Sid Meier's Pirates as well at £8.50click here to bring the total to £15.48 and then choose the free delivery via Super-Saver
#23

#25
