apparently there are two çomplete editions' .. one of them comes with the Colonization expansion as well...

I am guess this is the older ''çomplete edition''

anyone know where i can find one of those? its funny I was just thinking about this today lol

Bought Civ4 when it was first released & I'm still playing it today! (though have since bought the complete edition to get the expansions).

Civ4: Colonization is an entirely different story; played that for a few days after it came out, and haven't touched it since.
Pile of **** if you ask me - which is such a shame, as I played the original Colonization to death; was possibly better than whichever Civ release was out at the time!
#3
Colonization (the new one) was fine, but somehow wasn't addictive like the old one. As for the deal, hot.
#4
Wow. Some astomishing PC games deals at Play at the moment (e.g. Bioshock/Oblivion pack also for 4.99).
#5
I bought this literally two days ago when Play listed it as £6.99. I don't suppose Play have a refund-the-difference policy like Amazon?
#6
Argh! This game will consume your soul :)
#7
I haven't played Civ since I whiled away many, many, many hours on the original game I bought in 1991... this looks like a great deal but I fear my free time would just disappear into a black hole!
#8
Need this on Mac!!!! :-(

(for a similar price)

google freeciv there's a community thats written a copy of an older civ version. its very good too gfx are basic but runs on portable apps so can carry it everywhere!!
#15
I wasted my youth playing the orignal game. Now, I'll waste my golden years playing the new version.

Voted hot :)

Out of interest, will this merrily run without the disc once the game has been registered? My laptop drive is knackered and it's a pain (and a waste of electricity) connecting my external drive up for the sake of verification.

Would rather not clone the iso on my hard disc either as it's just a waste of space.
#17
I ummed and aahed over the last time this was on for 9 quid, as I wasn't sure if my onboard graphics could handle it. So I baulked and didn't buy. Now, for a fiver, iis easier to buy it than not buy it.... ordered! If it doesnt work then Its off to ebay to grab a second hand graphics card...

No, the disc is always required to launch the game.
Though there is atleast 1 no-cd crack available for the latest version; the one I use came from GCW.

Please note, this is not an endorsement of piracy!

How do the PC versions compare to the console Civ Revolution? I've got that and it was fun but quite repetative and there didn't seem to be any sort of campaign options or anything like that.

The console versions are just the lettuce on the burger.
If you enjoy the style of play you will be delighted with the PC version.

I haven't been able to track one down on any UK sites -- I'm not sure if such a thing is available over here (although I know it is in the States). Closest I could find was the £25 bundle on Steam but you might as well buy this, a copy of Colonization for £10 and save yourself a tenner!

See what you mean. Looks like the UK 'Complete' edition is the same as the US 'Gold' release. Thought it might be down to publishing rights but it appears to be 2K Games on both sides of the pond.

A 5 year old PC will probably struggle.
For the type of game it is, Civ4 is quite demanding of your PC.

The PC I had when I bought it initially was a 3ghz Athlon64, with a Geforce 6800 GT - and while it was perfectly playable, slowdown was noticable at some points; in particular when the entire map was revealed on a large+ world.

I would say the game will be distinctly less fun if played on anything less than a Geforce 6600 (or equivalent.)

In the start menu go to 'run' and put dxdiag in the box, this will show you what your pc can do. Mine is that old, despite some improvements made to RAM and the gfx card mine will run it fine, manages most highish spec games and it's an average PC.

TheWife(tm) plays this often on a Pentium 4 with a 7600GT and 2GB memory on XP. It's an old Dell machine I've upgraded the memory, graphics and PSU on. Even with that hunk of junk we can use AA and other higher graphics settings.

Arrived this morning :)
Thanks again.
