Ahoy!

#3
Just purchased, thanks for the great find . I've only ever heard good things about this game.

Also, you can get Cities XL Limited Edition for £10.95 (from the main D2D home page)...awesome price for a game that is £30+ at all other download sites as far as I know.
#4
I tempted by Titan Quest 1 and 2 for £2.50. Hmmm.
#5
Just bought Titan Quest bundle :-D
#6
Titan Quest is well worth it if you haven't played it yet - spent many a happy hour experimenting with different builds
#7
Damnit, couldnt resist, thanks.

cough* steam rocks

but yah sid meirs pirates is a class game only prob i had was crew were always depressed no matter what :x

Sometimes on these download sites they don't patch the games to the latest versions and this can cause game stopping bugs. Not heard of any in this one but it happened with others, was harsh as people who pirated the game could carry on playing but the decent people were screwed as the extra DRM added for Direct2Drive meant the regular patch didn't work. Still nice deal!

Excellent game - the gold standard of updating an old title.
#11
Sid Meiers is awesome!

Sid Meier is the daddy. I have recently been engrossed in Colonization (downloaded free, legally, from Abandonia site). Just don't get gameplay like that anymore!!!
#13
Yeah, it brings back the memories. I like coming back to it.

Colonization is without a doubt one of the finest games I have ever played.
#15
I've just remembered that there was a remake of Colonization released a couple of years or so ago... Has anyone played it? £9.99 at shopto.net.

Sorry for going off topic...

Yarrrrrrr. I love this game.

Never heard of this with any game - which games are you refering to?

You often have to wait an extra day for a patch so they can put their wrapper around it - but as I said, i have never heard of patches not being available.

I haven't played it yet, but you can get it as part of the Civilization IV: Complete bundle at D2D at an extortionately expensive....ahem.....£4.95. http://www.direct2drive.co.uk/177/8049/product/Buy-Civilization-4:-The-Complete-Edition-Download

Anyone who hasn't got Civ IV yet is in for a real treat at this price, let alone the Colonization remake that is included!

Awesome! Thanks for that! I already have Civ4 but I don't have the expansions, or Colonize, obv.

It's good to see another digital games distributor giving such good value. Hopefully Steam will get off it's high horse and start dropping it's prices to sensible levels in return. :)

For those wanting a physical disk it's the same price for pre-owned at Cex, seem to be copies at most stores around the UK.

You didnt see the Christmas sale then ? Or the weekend / week sale gone past or the sale on every wed and weekend ? Steam generally tend to give a lot more deals than Direct2Drive, this is a new thing for them and this is the last week. Although they do a weekly deal also, competition is good for us though.

Think I am going to buy this tonight, thanks for that OP.

The BF2 collection for £7.50, that's got to be a bargain, can anyone get cheaper?

You can get it used for around £3 @ Amazon marketplace - just buying you the basic version gets you all the addons now that they have released the latest patch for free. Otherwise £7.96 @ Gameseek is teh cheapest retail boxed version.

If i recall correctly EA had this for sale for £5 recently, but it's still £15 on Steam.

It's a good game, but i'm not sure how popular it is now that Battlefield 2142, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Bad Company 2 have all been released since BF2 was.

Yes i see the Steam sales all the time, and make good advantage of them. What I was getting at is that their 'normal' prices are usually very high. They've been able to get away with this because there haven't really been many other Digital game distributors in the market. Now that D2D and others are generating lots of interest there will be proper competition and that shall mean better general prices for the consumer.

Has anyone tried this on Vista/7?

Be nice to play this one again ;-)

The download speeds on direct2drive were awful (30-50kbps) I ended up just torrenting it.

I have the updated Colonization, it's really a full-body mod of Civ 4. On the whole I don't think it quite carried over the magic like the Pirates update did. It's still a good game, but it just isn't as good as the original (if you are willing to overlook dated graphics I'd say you're better off with the original).

Ah, fair enough. Well, for a fiver I have bought it from D2D and will give it a go. (Plus I get Civ4 expansions!) For anyone who wants to play the original Colonization, check out:

Huh? Most of the general Digital Distribution services (Steam, Direct2Drive, Impulse, GamersGate, Metaboli etc.) launched several years ago, Direct2Drive was one of the first and operating for at least a year before steam, as was Stardock's Drengin.net (later TotalGaming and now Impulse).

Steam has only had the initial advantage because of Valve's strong arm tactics of requiring it for big games (originally Half Life 2, later ETW and MW2) and opting users into their adverts without asking for consent.

Unfortunately they all charge the ridiculously high RRP for games normally, we really need a new one with more consistently good pricing or a change in the mindset of whoever's controlling the prices.
