I was just about to place an order with home reserve - but not availble with this method! That's a bummer!

Have you got one of these Esq? Got any shots if you have?

I have been looking at buying a Canon 55-250 IS lens for £160 for my 300D. Only problem - the IS don't work on the camera, unless you have a genuine canon battery - and I cant find mine. So that £160 bargain price would rise dramatically.

I run IS on my L series lens with the 350d and 40d on cheap replacement batteries with no problems.

Mate has this sigma 70-300 , he took this picture yesterday on a 400d canon with it.

Good price for this lens,

If you have a 300d and cant use it, sell the 300d on ebay before they are worthless - they have been holding there value well, but I doubt for much longer.
#7
The main criticism of the cheaper Sigma lenses is the use of plastic gearing which often just outlasts the guarantee.
#8
Another cracking shot from the mates 400d with 70-300 sigma.

I can use it though... just not with IS lenses unless I fork out for a genuine canon battery (or find the one thats in my house somewhere!)

To be fair, I have been thinking about an upgrade. Not because I need one - just that I think I'm missing out! The 300D is still a fantastic camera - even if it is only 6.1MP.

That's a great deal if you can get one.

I'm selling a 40D, grip, 3 batteries and 24-105L lens.... all barely used....
#12
It's a good price but consider a IS lens for this focal range, or you are severely restricted to good light, high ISO and high shutter speeds.

Out of interest Guv where were you going to get that lens for £160 from? I can't find it cheaper than £200 :x

What is the car in that picture? Dare I say it looks a little like the Fiat Barchetta but I highly doubt that is what it is!

Typing Canon 55-250 IS into Google UK immediately shows prices of £164 (BuyACamera) and £169 (Simply Electronics).

This is NOT the APO lens folks and as far as I know the APO optics can make a noticeable difference!
I have the APO version it is great in sunny weather anything else and you need to keep an eye on shutter speed otherwise you are going to be disappointing with your results 9 times out of 10!

It's a Ginetta G50 not a Fiat.

How much are you looking for the lens on it's own?

Definately the 75-300 IS wont work on it without a genuine canon battery. Ask Pugwash! (Actually - that lens didnt work on a 40D with a compatible as well!)

Not me, I have a Canon HD camcorder and a couple of IXUS pocket things. :?

I was looking at getting this or the Apochromatic version for my 450D but decided against it. Having read as many reviews as I could Google, I would not have considered the non-Apo. Both seem to get rather "soft" at the longer end of the zoom, and the non-Apo (this one) is prone to chromatic aberration (where you see purple or green fringes around bright areas). However, a friend had the Apo in a different mount and said it had been a poor purchase and ended up trading it in for a different lens. Yes, it is light, but feels rather flimsy. If you are only going to use it occasionally and don't need top quality then it is fine, but I bought a DSLR to take good photographs and this lens looks like it is struggling to beat a decent compact.

Voted neither hot nor cold because, whilst it doesn't fit my needs, it may fit someone else's.

For the money you will notice very little difference between the APO and Non APO, One mate has the APO version and the other who took the car pictures in this thread has the Non APO and imo I cannot see much difference side by side when we shoot pictures at the racetrack.

This thread here should give people an idea of what at least the APO version is capable of in good light - there are some pretty poor shots but also some stunning shots one would expect from much more expensive glass!

Indeed - and luckily for me, I have a friend who is an air hostess for BA. But having just spent a fortune on various bits and bobs, the missus would skin me right now!:w00t:

My missus would skin me right now just for having a friend who was an air hostess! :whistling:
