I've known about this for a while, but I thought that someone would have posted it already. As Uni starts in the next couple of weeks, for those of you without student accounts, I can honestly recommend LloydsTSB's Student Account. £75 Cash (£25 with 28 Days and £50 within a year as long as you dont go overdrawn), Free NUS Extra Card, Free AA Driving Lesson, 35 Free Music Downloads, Free Mobile Phone Insurance, and free 1 Year YHA Membership. This is more than I've seen any bank offer. Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

EDIT: A further £50 if your account doesnt go overdrawn and you pay in at least 3 credits by 30 June 2008.

So it's not a year, its 9 months, plus you have to pay in 3 credits, but thats not really going to be an issue!

what's the overdraft like on this account?

Might need to use this direct link <<<<

£500 for the first 6 months, £1,000 in months 7 to 9 then £1,500 after that. We also offer an un-tiered interest-free overdraft of up to £1,500 in years 2 and 3 and up to £2,000 in years 4, 5 and 6.

But don't forget, for the remaining £50 cashback you can't go overdrawn. Still without the cash, its still a good deal imo.

I've seen this too and thought its better then the Natwest one with the free railcard "worth £100" because you get actual cash, overdraft is pretty good something like £1500 free overdraft

Also, from what I gather there are LloydsTSB Cashpoints at quite a few Unis (including mine :D) All the better for avoiding those nasty charges!

Yep, that's correct.

Is there any need for such an offensive comment?

AND you are talking through your a***. Students have to show their UCAS acceptance letter in order to open a student account and they also check student grant is going in.

it's the easiest thing in the world to open more than one student account. I don't know how many friends of mine have maxed out 2 or 3 overdrafts. (there lies the danger)

Can I open a student account if I already have an account with Lloyds?

(I will be a v. mature student next week, and it's all changed since the last time!).

Yes, as long as you don't already have an existing student account with them or any other bank. They will need appropriate proof that you are attending an established place of study, eg acceptance letter showing the university/college logo and address etc.

Can I apply even though its my last year of uni.

Yes you can and, as mention previously, as long as you do not have another student account elsewhere.

I'm sure there is an age limit but I knew someone in their early 50s who decided to go to uni and he opened an account with no problems.

At my freshers fair last year we were encouraged by the people trying to sign us up to different student bank accounts (Natwest, HSBC and Bank of Scotland I think) that we should sign up, get the free goodies (got a free toastie maker and cash and other such things on the day) and then in a few weeks to cancel the ones we don't want as you sign a form saying that you only have one student account and you have 30 days to cancel any other banks you may have student accounts with.
Oh, and beware - Natwest and Bank of Scotland are apparantly run by the same people and a bestmate of a friend was busted for having two of these accounts so don't double up on Natwest and Bank of Scotland student accounts.

Do you have to be a student?

I can show I'm a lazy, stay-in-bed, drink-too-much, think-the-world-revolves-round-me, layabout with a half-arsed attitude to anything I do.

So I have all the attributes. I just don't have a matriculation card!
