the problem with these is that because it's powered by the Laptop, it then slows the laptops tasks down.

Nice idea but they just dont work, the extra power of the fan probably creates more heat on the board than it extracts hence being in the pound shop..... chocholate teapot

These are useless, got one, which is now in the loft, very flimsy and lack any power to cool down notebook. OK for a pound if you are going to use it to keep a midget cool. won;t vote but you may as well save your pound

2 different powers of internal fan and that of this one would make it useless

Don't know if it's the fan or just the air gap but I'm using one of these now and my laptop runs cooler as a result.

they actually have a slight chill to them, i havent tried mine, but tbh, it might not help alot, but it is likely to help.
also they are quite nice for giving a laptop a tilt towards you, which my laptop battery has always done and is actually quite nice to type with. voted hot.

I've got one for my netbook..... note this is aimed for netbooks and not notebook/laptop/xbox 360 etc...

I will admit it isn't great but my netbook is very cool anyway and a pound for an additional blue light/lightweight fan isn't too bad.

But don't expect to get this cool your dual-core notebook cos it won't do that :-)

Did not say it did not drained power from it. mean it don't drain resource from it.

Plu it's the first time i have seen them in mine.

It shouldn't affect the performance of your laptop by plugging it into the USB. It will only be using the power connections from the USB port and I very much doubt that it will transmit any data. Heat from me.

the usb ports do have a small amount of current flowing to them but it wont really effect the running of the laptop because its a fairly tiny amount of power.

The reason they're in the pound shop is because they're kinda cheap and flimsy

The 'Signalex' brand stuff is made (or packaged) for Poundland, all there products have the same PO Box and Birmingham postcode as the stuff that Poundland branded products used to have. They started using other brand names instead, some of the other products they sell as regular stock with other 'brand' names have the same address (Toys etc).

Thats the reason they are in Poundland, and if you buy them anywhere else (like ebay) that's where they came from originally.

Like o_t_e said, it may just be the gap under the laptop helping to keep it cool, but if it works, it works. Never seen any in my Poundies. Just those V shaped rests that look kinda precarious.

    very good price indeed.

It drains a tiny amount of power from the laptop... it's negligable.

I bought one of these last week and it works, as someone has previously said though it may just be the air gap created

The fan is pretty poor, I'm not going to lie, but for £1, it's worth it.

good price. I got a Belkin one from Tesco two days ago for £15 The fan is a bit noisy but really can keep my laptop cool.

I've just done a test on a laptop cooler.
After 25 minutes my motherboard cooled down from 53c to 51
    CPU 1 from 47c to 45
    And CPU 2 from 49c to 47

TBH, I don't think it's efective as the temps would probably vary by that margin anyhow.
I welcome any comments from peeps who know what they are talking about, unlike me. :-D

I just got one to use on the back of my 360 and get the air flowing upwards... worth a quid but dont expect miracles!

edit: using it to cool my router down...

Saw this in poundland. Thought it looked quite cool but I couldn't think of a use for it and I don't own a notebook/netbook. That evening at home I noticed that my plusnet modem gets EXTEMELY hot. And then I thought mmm... that little blue fan notebook gadget I saw in pounland would make a perfect cooling stand for the modem. And it does! And the blue light radiating from under the stand/modem means it looks great as well! I'm now thinking where else could I used this cooling device or adapt for use on othe parts of my pc setup... Definitely a bargain for a quid.

The product is fine, especially if you want to keep laptop heat away from your varnished table top. But the address they give is the Royal Mail depot in Birmingham so don't expect to find the company there. I wouldn't buy anything important from a company that hides themselves like this but for a pound ...

PS. Don't buy their USB phone charging lead for a Sony Ericsson - they've wired the wrong pins.

On Instructibles I just saw a design for a shirt with two cooling fans built into it. A couple of these laptop coolers would be a very cheap source for the two fans with the bonus of running on a 5V battery pack instead of the 12V one used in the original design. You might want to disconnect the blue LEDs, unless you plan to wear the shirt in a disco.
