Hi bargainhunters!

Just purchased a Silent Night 8inch thick Memory foam mattress from T J Hughes (online), available in single, double & king size available single £179 RRP £379.99, double £229 RRP £399 & king size £269 RRP £609. Delivery is only £5.50

Checked out various online sites and this appears to be a very good price as most other foam mattresses have springs with a foam top layer (cheapy version) or they aremade by a obscure company that you will never have heard of, but hurry limited stock available, when I first looked double was out of stock but more was added Fri evening so I was able to bag one, keep checking you never know - this is a special purchase from said retailer so expect stock to go quickly!!!

Unfortunately I couldnt find any discount codes and they dont appear on Quidco, but still I'll get a good nights sleep knowing Ive saved some £££. These mattresses are not only good for your your back but quite nice on the wallet!

Goodluck

Its Kingsize im looking for and the price of £269 looks pretty good for a brand like silentnight, although i dont know whether full memory foam or the ones with a layer of foam are best, any feedback would be great.

IMO foam only with mem tops are a little lifeless, I don't want lifeless in my bed I like a little bit of action

Pocket Sprung 1200+, reflex foam and memory foam is the way to go :-D

For King Size Foam MAttress look here Item number: Item number: 140195333764 £220 delivered, but spec is way above the deal above IMO

Or he does Item number: 140195333764 Kingsize (BIN £399 but he accepts offers of £300 and that really is a different class)

Double is available for £164 plus £29 delivery also Item number: 140195419020

All the above are 10" and high quality :)

Ebay-thought the BIN price give it away lol.

Don't be fooled by a brand name and perceive better quality, not with foam mattresses at least.
There are only few companies that actually make memory foam and I don't think Silent Night are one of them :-D

Is that 'Silentnight are not one of them' or Silentnight are one of them'? Looks like you got a double negative going on there.

I've just had a silentnight memory foam mattress delivered yesterday (Miratex 700), first impressions are that its great, very comfortable but with good support (sounds like a bra!!). I've replaced a cheaper foam mattress and the silentnight is vastly better than the **** I had before this.

Anyone know which silentnight mattress this is though as they have two foam models Miratex 500 and 700..

Incidentally I paid £195 del. for my single mattress so if this is the miratex 700 its definitely a hot deal!

Ive been looking for a new mattress for a while but so difficult to know which is best.

Silentnight in particular seem to have tonnes of different products all with different names which dont appear on their own website, so very difficult to know what your getting grr

People think argos offer good deals but they heavily inflate the prices.

Look at the half price deals that were £650 now £325 etc then look for the £650 ones in the cat they don't exist.

Argos are getting worse for this

Quote from guide

An 8" memory foam mattress is probably the minimum you would want to sleep on for any length of time because under the memory foam there are various layers of standard foam that also contributes to the support.

sorry the one for £399 BIN is called the magic one or something. My mam has bought the double priced above but I personally not bought one cos I don't think I favour a Foam mattress Structure.

But I do like the look of the structure on the magic one though :)

So what one would you 'really' recommend?

Any ideas of a decent price for what you describe, since the ones on ebay in your post are foam only?

Does anyone have any opinion/experience of memory foam toppers? My OH isn't keen of going to the expense of a whole new mattress...

This is what I got for my dog an 8" thick memory foam mattress for £159 at ideas-4-pets.com.

I still have an old springy mattress myself which now need replacing.

I bought a Silentnight mattress (Miratex somethingorother) that appears to be identical to this, about 3 months ago.

It seemed ok for about a week, but very, very firm. After that I kept waking up with backache. Eventually bought one of the Memory Foam toppers to put on it that are now in Costco. These are much softer, and the backache has gone.

If I was buying again, I would forget the brand name and buy any old mattress, with the topper effectively transforming it.

Too much personal preference to generalise, just know the Silentnight was way too hard for me.

Great feedback, was it perhaps too hard as it was totally memory foam rather than springs with memory foam on top but still in the same mattress like some of the Miracoil range????

Im really confused as to what type to get, shame you cant try them and send them back if u dont like em lol
#29
For info them ebay ones I mentioned have Firmness rating of 7 (ten being the hardest)

I prefer the idea of medium to firm which this probably is.

I am seriously considering the magic one especially if he would accept £280 lol

Not very long but think she is quite impressed with it. If your looking at the for around £180 kingsize I can't see how you can go far wrong for that price for its spec, only my opinion of course there could be better Foam mattresses around but I haven't seen them.

I have the 1200 (12cm memory foam) version of this http://www.mattressman.co.uk/mattress/Double/Flexcell_1000_mattress.aspx and it is superb, once settled I don't stir till morning and feel amazingly refreshed.
Matressman used to offer the 1200 as a free upgrade to the 1000 in the link.
I got 'in to' memory foam about 4 years ago on trips to Taiwan. Toppers are used everywhere and are very high quailty, with air flow (contoured) and very cheap. In comparison the ones I have seen in stores over here are very poor quality and extortionate price. So much so that when I went back this summer I bought 2 single toppers from Taiwan for approx £20 and vacuum packed them in to a travel bag. Popped out the other end no problem.
At the price of his offer though, you really can't go wrong. Anyone tried MFI for a comparison, my local has quite a few Silent Night matress instore.

im new on here but i had to comment....memory mattress is made up of 2 layes reflex (vasco 40) and the memory, on this offer it doesnt state how thick the memory layer is...the more thickness of the memory layer the more expensive the mattress should be..this to me looks like it has only 1" memory if that...a good mattress should have atleast 2" memory....better to buy a pocket mattress (1500+ ) with memory instead of jus a foam memory mattress...bye the way i work in a bed manufacturing company ........

you will find silentnight make all their own beds, the memory foam is bought in separate and put into the beds on the shopfloor.
as for quality you'll find silentnight matts are very good value.
you will also find a pocket sprung bed more comfotable than a single sprung unit(thats just a metal spring inside the matt.)

saying all that a 1400 pocket made with 1.6 wire would probably suit most people.
#34
Bought one.....down to two left, you've all made me dizzy debating this!!!!
#35
not sure of the price of these, but I know they're expensive voted hot. p.s I purchased a silent night memory foam mattress topper for £50 yesterday.

hi i bought a 3" memory topper via ebay for around 70 last year still works great if you have a half decent mattress i would not waste a load of money on a full mattress as they are not filled with full mem foam only the top bit ,dont buy thinner than 3" thick as its a waste of time hope this helps ,the price inc delivery for king size

That is spot on but we got a mattress - the we got a 4" one for my son about 6 months ago from the bay and it is superb - before he was waking up loads during the night, now off he goes and we don't see him to morning. I think his is 4" memory and 6 or 12" base. came vacumed up in a roll - I though initially it was a topper they sent, unpacked it and after about 10 minutes it was up to full size - would buy one again.

About 8 months ago I researched mattresses for longer than I care to admit.

For me the ultimate spec was a lot of springs topped off by high quality memory foam.

In the end I bought this model.....

http://tinyurl.com/3bopco

(I've no connection with the seller whatsoever)

Jaritex are a quality Belgium manafacturer of mattresses.

What I attracted me to that mattress in particular was the high spring count, the density of the memory foam used *BUT* most importantly...it has memory foam just on one side (which feels rather warm to to lie on - ideal for winter), with normal reflex foam on the other side - so in the heat of summer just flip the mattress over to lie on the reflex foam instead & you don't end up all sweaty.

It's one of the few memory foam matresses with a Coolmax outer cover which is meant to avoid you getting clammy, (& sounds great in principle) but I'm not that convinced of it's effectiveness cos on warm days when lying on the memory foam side I still feel a bit clammy.

Watch out for this aspect when you buy a memory foam mattress - in my opinion you don't want the foam to thick (ie ideally 3" or less), else you'll sink deep into it & roast!
