Our microwave recently died and we've been lost without it.... but no fear... Lidl to the rescue (well maybe).

From the 22nd August they are selling this model which seems to have good features at a very reasonable price, not forgetting the 3 year guarantee.

Its a oven as well.
My nan cooks the most amazing roasties in these, but she has a panasonic one.

Good deal, these are well over 100.00 in the shops and saves lots of money on elec.
I got a halogen oven from costco for 24.00 which is good.

Good story eh!

If you are thinking about buying this - use the £5 off Facebook voucher to get (you've guessed it) £5 off

Hope I can get one. This has come just at the right time; my normal oven caught fire yesterday! I can't complain; it was 14 years old.

Heated. (Well, it is a cooker.)

Wonder if the door is double glazed? Many modern electrics use triple glazing, such is the unit charge.

Well as planned I got one... using the £5 Facebook discount voucher.

I'm just setting it up... first use you have to take everything out, put it on the Grill Mode 3 and run it for 10 minutes.... let it cool down, wipe it around and then it's good to use. Whilst running the microwave will give off a burning rubber smell and there may be a very light smoking.

Seems to be well built, mostly brushed stainless steel. I like the fact it has two grills, one over the tray and one under (it might be a common feature on more expensive combination ovens although I haven't seen it before). The oven has loads of different preset modes, again I haven't tried any yet and most probably wont be used. One thing I did think is that whatever is cooking is almost impossible to see inside as the door is tinted with a metal honeycomb cover on the inside, plus the lightbulb is to the side and doesn't seem to throw out much light.

Going to try a Jacket Potato when it is ready, apparently the mode for this uses 70% (upper and lower grills) plus 30% microwave.

The proof is in the cooking obviously but on first appearances, all looks good.

By the way there is a thin plastic film over the button panel and open button making the mirror finish look dull... remember to carefully pick this off for a mirror like finish.

Thanks for the review Buster - from the description on the website I thought this might just have the element on the top (ie grill) so your info was very useful....

Picked one up and quite impressed with it however the turntable seems to make a bumping noise almost like its not seated properly - Buster does yours do the same?
#12
Asked Mrs Busterdan about this and she said no "bumping" that she is aware of... she used it today to cook some part baked rolls...

Does the turntable wheels sit flat/roll freely if you place it on a table... perhaps check that first if you haven't already. The spigot that the turntable fits over is quite long so just double check it is seated properly.

I can confirm.... no bumping...

There is something in the instructions about this - if used for more than several minutes then the fan stays on for a little while to cool the oven....

My combination microwave has just packed in, so I've been looking around. Our existing one was a Sharp, which had a double grille as well as convection. It was brilliant. Pizzas cooked were lovely, and crisp too.

For anybody who bought one of these, does it work as well as it promises ?

Is there an easy pizza cook function.

is there a turntable, is it glass or metal

thanks

We haven't tried a pizza yet but the manual does state that pizza cooked with both grills will be "very crispy" and there is an easy cook pizza setting.

The turntable looks similar to a Teflon coated backing tray but I assume it may be ceramic/non metallic.

As Busterdan mentions there is an easy cook pizza setting which has three options (for frozen or chilled pizzas - can't remember the third option but presumably its fresh)....
Haven't tried any yet though.

By the way on the Pizza question, I had the best pizza ever yesterday (Ok a bit of an overstatement)...

It was one of frozen LIDL mozzarella stone baked pizza (with the 5 circular slices of mozzarella) and come as a pair in a 350g box. I have eaten these many times before, cooked in an electric oven and once cooked the 5 slices of mozzarella are still obvious to the eye.

So here is what we did...

Pop the pizza directly onto the grey microwave tray (remember to remove the plastic) :)
Turn the main knob left and select Pizza mode - A-05
Then select P-01 (Frozen)
Then 150g and start.

The oven sets the cook time to 14 minutes... remember that microwaves will be used as well as the grill so don't put anything metallic inside. We also checked it a couple of times to makes sure the Pizza wasn't burning.

The result was a part crispy base (mostly at the outer edges). The topping was completely melted and the slices of mozzarella were no longer obvious, the topping was still quite moist and not burned. The Pizza tasted very different to when it is cooked inside a conventional oven with a very strong cheesy flavour coming through.

Give it a try... I was very impressed with the result.

Can anyone tell me the range of temperatures that the convection oven (ordinary oven) operates at? Does it start as low as 40 or 50 for proving bread, or go as high as 230C for roasting? Many thanks

Hi folks, just bought a Silvercrest stainless steel microwave 'smw 900 eds b2' yesterday. The turntable supplied seems to be made of a coated metallic substance, charcoal in colour. Is this correct? I presumed MW turntables were meant to be made from glass material. When trying to do microwavable popcorn in this machine, the bag just starts to singe. Anyone else have an issue like this?

I bought a Silvercrest combination microwave on offer from Lidl's for £79.95 last Thursday.
The turntable is like a Teflon coated 'metal' , it's not glass. It can't be metal in a microwave!

I tried a Sainsbury's Quiche Lorraine from their chiller placed without its foil dish directly onto the turntable.
I used convection with pre-heating. I was unsure what would happen as it said display would show "30:00" on the preheating mode but actually the beep sounded after only 2 mins into the 30 mins :| then I had to place the quiche on the very hot turntable. I had to set it then to cook for 20 mins, the normal time I'd cook it for in my normal oven & it was excellent, pastry was crisp. I haven't a clue why it comes up with "30:00" but don't worry, preheating the oven to 190°C took only 2 mins. I'm looking forward to trying more foods in it.

Hi, do you know what the highest convection oven temp this microwave does? Is it 230 degrees? Thanks
